My favorite retro style was when they were trying to be modern and sleek so these don't fight with what you want to do. Can you share some photos of what style you like? Vintage can mean anything. Its all about the accessories. Rug, throws, pillows and lamps. You could certainly paint the shelves or glue some patterned paper inside. If the chair is white, in addition to a nice pillow, I would stamp some flowers on it with just a foam stamp and some craft paint. Or get a stencil and do a big design. Put the TV on a stand where the ____ is between the living room and dinette. Basically put the couch where the living room is written and make that the foyer behind. That way people can walk behind the couch and still get to all the other areas. And the tv will be a visual barrier separating the living and dining area. Ideas for Optimum TV Placement? Ohhh that high gloss wall is pretty. My last apartment probably had satin paint in the bathroom and I hated it!!! My hair would literally cling like crazy everywhere! Wow. My family proudly let me hang up all of the ornaments I made in school. I doubt they still do that, but how does it make your child feel to say aww that's nice you made me something but I am going to hide it! I even broke some of the glass ornaments! I hate those perfectly designed trees. They are hideous and impersonal. Do you have family photos hanging in your house? Or do they clash with your design style? Love the color, it is so dark it is almost neutral to let the art shine. I like the unframed look of the art and the fun pulls on an ikea looking dresser. Only problem is the bed being against the wall. What if two people are sleeping over and one needs to get up in the middle of the night!
