I'm not sure about the dimensions of the Billy, my husband and his grandfather made our version of the thing and I don't think it's exactly the same size... but those cardboard "banker boxes" fit perfectly in mine. I recently covered mine in wallpaper, but previously they've been covered in fabric, paint, etc. You really can't tell they are just cardboard boxes after they are covered, they fit perfectly, and they have lids (to better hide all my crap). I can always change them/move things around whenever I feel like it. It was $14.00 for the roll of wallpaper and $15.00 for a 10 pack of bankers boxes.

@ckal - I used to use a cleaner my previous landlord gave me for my glass top stove, it was slightly gritty, smelly, blue stuff but it worked great.

When that ran out I switched to a vinegar/hot water mix, or I make kind of a baking soda paste and scrub with that. Once when I made a huge mess with a cream sauce the stove seemed to take on a smell. I recall finding some blog that said to cover the stove top in vinegar/water and sprinkle baking soda on top of that. It worked great!

Also, I'll second microwaving some water to clean the microwave. I use a little bowl and usually do it after I've used lemon juice for something, I'll put the "juiced" lemon remains in some water and put it on high for a couple of minutes. It smells great and any gunk/buildup on the inside of the thing wipes off easily.

I freeze waffles all the time, I'm one of those people who never has enough time in the mornings... so one day a week usually I make a ton of waffles and freeze them. You can stick them in the toaster like you would an ego and they are wonderful!

Also a big fan of making "mini" lasagnas to freeze for the husband to eat, I have these little round pyrex dishes with lids that work great for a single serving lasagna.

I also make "tiny pies" I got the idea from here but I make them in tiny mason jars... yum!

I used to live in a small college town of about 30,000 people. I was working at a movie theatre as a manager and my boyfriend (now husband) had my car and cell phone. He neglected to pick me up at the previously arranged time so I started to walk home in the snow. I slipped and broke my ankle and knocked on at least 5 doors before someone would let me use the phone. A well dressed 22 year old girl in tears on the doorstep and people still didn't open the door, one person even answered and shut the door in my face. Like I said, this is a small, safe town, and I was walking through the "nicest" part of town as well.

While I always use caution opening the door, I always open it, even though I now live in a city where the metro area is more like two million.

We have these little dryer balls, they look like these:

They work wonders for static and can be reused over and over again. Good stuff.

Duchamp challenged the boundaries of art with his "readymades" and they were all, in some sense, altered. Even if the only change was in the location of the object. Once an object is placed in a gallery setting the expectations on the viewer change, at the time this was nothing short of revolutionary.

Clement Valla is really no different.

Our windows are open as much as possible. While we have central heat and air... we put a little window AC unit in the bedroom which gets turned on about half an hour before bed. My partner can't take any sort of heat when hes trying to sleep. I on the other hand, am always cold and could completely do without AC.

We live in a rural community, and aside from an extremely noisy family next door its pretty quiet, things get dusty, sure; but the fresh air is worth it.

The apartment we lived in before this house had an attic fan which made a huge difference. I'd love to still have one of these things, the difference it makes in temperature regulation is amazing.

I wouldn't paint the brick. If you are worried about the slight discoloration and serious about staying in your house there are lots of brick restoration options (although I have the feeling it would be expensive). I'll second the call for a walkway to the house and a porch of some kind, and I'd paint the trim and things green... I'm a sucker for green and brick.

Indeed there is nothing but safety film in the industry at this point... I'm not sure I like this application of the material, but I really don't think it would be a safety risk at all. It's not flammable and while there is a chance that you or a small child could cut yourself on it, it would probably be similar to a paper cut.

I think there are all kinds of great ways to reuse film, I take it home with me from work to wrap presents and things with during the holidays, people get a kick out of it as bows and things. Especially if the gift inside is movie related... We also use film to decorate our christmas tree for the festival of trees every year, it looks great with little white christmas lights underneath it. I have teachers come in and ask for old trailers (previews, which we throw away) for classroom decorating and things on a regular basis. Just a few ideas. :)

We have "strict" rules about destroying things at my place of business as well, for legal reasons. But we generally turn a blind eye on things like that and let the staff take them home, give them to their friends, whatever. If something is desired by a lot of the staff to a point of argument we will have a contest or something and the winner takes it home. Corporate is aware that many locations are lax on these rules and nothing comes of it... its one of those... we all do it, but no one talks about it, kind of things.

Why throw things away that people want or need? That's so wasteful... :(

ahh.. the last time I moved I seriously found 40 undeveloped rolls of film (I am a photo major, not a stalker) it's comforting to know someone else shares my plight. Anyway, it's so much fun to process things late, you should totally do it!

I brought mine to wal-mart (a necessary evil) in shifts as suggested above and asked for negatives and a cd only. It wasn't that bad, totally worth it! :) They also don't make you pay for anything that doesn't turn out, I had a couple rolls that were worthless.

Kansas:

Kansas City has "First Friday" every month, a big open house of art studios and galleries... films shown on the sides of buildings, that sort of thing in the art district downtown.

http://www.crossroadscommunityassociation.org/

there is also map and a pretty good list of places in KC here.

then there is the Nelson Atkins in KC.

If you are up to a little trip, drive out to Lucas, Kansas be sure and visit this strange town with its outsider art museum and the ever popular, Garden of Eden.

we have a little rope light up around the inside of the front porch (not visible unless you are standing on the porch) but it creates a friendly glow.

otherwise we just flip the light on the way out in the evening, and turn it off when we get in.

amt,

I grew up in a house with 3 skylights and we never had problems with them. I recall we lost the largest one during a tornado when I was 10 or so, which is the only one my parents ever had to replace. My parents live in Kansas, so the tornado season is always a risk, only one broken in 30 years or so though, and no leaks or anything.
