Stain, stain, stain! Get a good gel stain and turn those cabinets into a dark stain! It maybe better for your partner than painting, and that 90's curve in the doors will be less noticable. If you like modern stylings, try hanging large white canvas. You can get some cheap ones at Hobby Lobby and they always have their 40% off of any regular priced item. If you would like to make something similar, try hanging foam core wrapped in a white or light colored fabric. Its pretty cheap and easy to do in an apartment. You can use 3M strips to hang it too!
