I moved from a studio (2 years) to a small one-bedroom (4 years) in the same NYC UWS building, then to a larger one bedroom (3 years now and counting...) to a building 2 blocks away. All through the same landlord, and continually upgrading for light and space, with relatively little difference in rent. It was definitely worth all the hassle of moving.
