I agree with adding lots of white to brighten the space. I also think it would help to add a temporary wallpaper to some of the walls, something with a tone on tone pattern to break up the monotony of the taupe color everywhere. Try something like this:

I love this series and enjoy each update. I totally sympathized with your frustration when your contractor's did substandard work or failed to catch your vision. I found the most difficult part of renovating is finding someone who is skilled and capable of bringing your ideas to life. Those contractor's are like finding a rare jewel!

I loved the kitchen reno and don't mind a mix of metals. The bathroom tile is AMAZING and the after is gorgeous!! Job well done. My only suggestion would be to change out the knobs for something with more color or detail. The white knobs seem to be working against the white of the cabinet and sink. Maybe try something like the Cloisonne Chrysanthemum Pull from Anthtropologie instead: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/baynote/073786.jsp
