My living room also has to function as a dining room and office - a lot to fit into a space that's about 3.8m x 3.2m. That would be fine, but there's a fireplace along one of the longer walls that makes every furniture arrangement impossible because the raised hearth protrudes about 0.8m, taking up width and creating two awkwardly small spaces on either side of it. My nursery school (ages 2-4/5 in the UK) had an interesting compromise for this problem - the older half of the year started school in September, while the younger half stayed in nursery until January. Both sets of kids did exactly the same activities in that time period, but they found that keeping the younger ones in a familiar environment with more one-to-one support (without the older ones there) made them more confident and eased the subsequent transition to school. As long as it's not a bad case of mould or mildew or something similar, I've found that rice can get rid of musty smells. Just put a couple of trays of it in the place you want to demustify, and leave for a few days (depends on how bad the smell is). 5 Ways To De-Funk Musty Furniture |
