I don't really understand the trend of putting your kid's name on the wall, and in giant letters. It seems very narcissistic. It's obviously not for the baby, since it'll probably be taken down before they learn to read.

Love the pixel iPad case. Went to buy one but they are only set up for PayPal and they are asking to submit bill and shipping/personal info over an unsecured page. :(

All the ads for my area say weird stuff like "capacious tub". Other people try to copy the fancy wording and end up with "gracious floor plan" - whatever that means.
Still not sure what "tremendous location" is code for, and I just read an ad on CL that says "High ceilings, perfect society with easy access to downtown!" I don't even want to find out what the perfect society consists of in Akron, Ohio.

My landlady has never fixed anything beyond what was legally required (when none of the tenants in the house had hot water). The kitchen cabinets are coming off the walls, I have huge cellar spiders in the summer, and apparently mice, which I did not know about until I got a kitten a year after moving in, and she killed some in the night.

She told us she was planning to paint the house, because it's all peely and crappy looking, but she was waiting on the township to "approve the color choice". That was 2.5 years ago. The house is still military green/white where the paint peeled.

My previous upstairs neighbor had two massive dogs in her tiny, tiny apartment, and she would collect their poop in a five-gallon bucket that she kept under her porch. Which, unfortunately, was right under my kitchen window. When it got hot, it was really rank. I left her a polite note asking her to move it away from all the doors and windows. She moved it under my bedroom window A/C unit. I asked the landlord to do something about it, but she did not, because the tenant was moving. The tenant left it behind. The landlady had to deal with it later. :)

My brother is a single dad with a two year old and has to learn everything the hard way. He only invited a few kids to my niece's 2nd birthday party at the park, but chose for some reason to set the time from 12-4. Way too long for a kid's party, and covered the span of her naptime. She screamed/cried the entire four hours, didn't even open presents, and then threw a tantrum on the concrete and banged her head on the sidewalk in the process. The other kids were so perfect, but now we all know the rule about scheduling around nap time.

Is there a website like Apartment Therapy, but for poor people? I got excited, then saw that under 2k is considered reasonable. *sigh*

Thank you for linking those! I have them already, someone bought them for me several years ago; but then I got a cat, and she climbed them all the way to the top, leaving a long line of holes... I had forgotten the brand name.

Some of these feel too abstract to be any fun. I loved dollhouses that were the most true to real life, in miniature. But maybe that was just me.

They must have better thrift stores. I always go thinking I'll be sure to find something I can turn around, but when I get there it's all seriously useless, dusty junk. Or it's already sold.

My last upstairs neighbors were AWFUL. They had three giant dogs in their 400 square foot apartment, sliding around and jumping on and off the furniture. She stomped around like sasquatch and ALWAYS had parties late during the weeknights because she worked on the weekends. She kept a five-gallon bucket full of dog crap under my kitchen window. When I asked her about moving it or trying to be less noisy she just got pissy and louder, and moved the bucket under my bedroom window under the AC instead.

My new neighbor is much better, but he has been having some very loud phone arguments late at night with his child's mother. I can accept that our walls and floors are so thin that I can hear phones vibrating and people coughing/burping/sneezing, but sometimes it's way over the top and I don't know how to bring it up to them.

I try to be quiet during the day when he is sleeping, so I would just appreciate it if he wasn't so damn loud when I'm trying to sleep.

Maybe, we finally got an Apple store at Summit Mall a few years ago so I haven't looked at what else is around. I am really hoping for an Ikea though. I have been keeping my apartment pretty much empty while I try to find cheap furniture that looks good.

There's an IKEA in Ohio, but it's faster for us to drive to the one in Pittsburgh. What is in West Chester that makes Apple and IKEA set up there, but not Akron/Cleveland?

I saw a cedar trunk that was identical to the one in the picture, at Goodwill, for $30. It was already sold. I was bummed, I've really wanted one for awhile but I don't usually see them for sale, and when I do they are expensive.

I would love to invite people over. If I had a living room, or anywhere for people to sit. Just the very small table in the kitchen. Or anything for them to do since there's no TV in the non-existent living room. I can't wait to move out of this place.

I feel sad when I read these posts and they describe this place as "miniscule".

If this is miniscule, then what is my apartment? Microscopic? I have a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. I don't even have room for a couch.

I personally would consider this social engineering, not hacking. He must not be too great of a tech blogger if he doesn't know the difference between hacking and social engineering.

I wouldn't want cabinets all the way up to the ceiling because I'm too short to reach them without a ladder. I think it looks great.
