I am pretty sure this is the house tour I loved best in the past few years...
What an unexpected mix with functional beauty. Three little kids and nice decor, not a small feat.

OK, so I'm just going to start by saying I am not a professional designer, so I do not have a dog in this fight.

Let's agree on a few things: that the media and the information age has changed the playing field in most - if not all - areas including design. Goods are more available to the public; people are more informed on both sides; something that used to be a privilege of the few, is becoming mainstream. We all have to adapt and deal with the variations on this theme: perception versus reality and marketing versus long-term results.

I LOVE TV design shows and I suspect many of us reading AT watch them because we love the art-form; creating fulfilling and beautiful spaces is what makes us tick. Otherwise we wouldn't be on this website. Now, you don't need to be a DYI'er to know that everything (and I mean EVERYTHING, not just home related stuff) usually takes longer than you think, it's harder than you think, and most likely it's more expensive than you think. So home improvement/design is no different.

Also, even in the show I love, sometimes in close-ups I see details I wouldn't WANT in my house (rough edges, slightly sloppy paint, gaps, etc.) and if the project was supposed to only take 2 days or whatever, that is not a surprise... I am sure the happy recipients of the makeover sign a disclaimer saying something to that effect. Let's not forget the key word here: SHOW.

It's TV people. Don't believe all that you see on TV.

And my kind request to designers - which I respect by en large even when I don't understand on a individual level - is to keep in mind that people gripe also about their doctors, their kid's teacher, whatever. We are humans interacting with other humans and some humans suck.

I wear inside what I wouldn't mind wearing outside. Or perhaps more accurately, I like to make sure that I can go from home to the outer world without any need for outfit changes. That usually means athletic wear - yoga pants and a tank with a shelf bra so there will be no need for extra clothing without me looking sloppy.

The truth is however, that house life (eating, drinking, cooking, taking care of little ones), does ruin my athletic outfits really fast; much faster that if I would just save them for the outside world. But I just use the least expensive ones (from TJ Maxx or whatever) and I can replace them every few months.

We spend so much time in our homes, and usually with the people we care the most about. I want to show them I care - both about them and about myself. But I am vain.

Hey people. I love original work and antiques as much as the next AT person. That being said, it would be so refreshing to respect other's decision to do whatever they want with their stuff. They paid for it, they were willing to do the work, and quite frankly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is not Pythagorean math. Taste and design are so appealing to us all because there are so many ways in which something can be approached.

What is a crime in somebody's eye, is a new life in somebody else's eye. Both perspectives have merit. And in the end, if need be, you can always strip it back.

So please, chill. Let the woman enjoy her new beds.

Lovely home.
Bit pretentious (like in "I am awesome and look at me" sort of way, but I do that all the time. Isn't that what designed obsessed people like us do??).
Beautiful and very well curated.

DUDE!!!
Your home rocks. And you are one gutsy renter, with taste to match and awesome painting skills. The white edge around the windows is indeed, a stroke of genius. Love the off-center placement of the white swath and the deer horns in the bedroom.

And apparently baking too? Cool. The Renaissance Man. Good find, AT!

So, to add my 2 cents on the "hungry" effect experienced by some people after eating an orange or an apple. Oranges (and some apple varieties) are quite acidic. Our stomach juices are mostly acid (just to simplify). More acid in your stomach the hungrier you feel; food usually absorbs that during the digestion process.

Most people don't feel the correlation, but some do. Personally, when I eat an orange I feel like it drills a hole in my stomach...
