One of my favorite house tours so far. I LOVE that book headboard - so creative and really showcases your personality/interests. I also absolutely love the colors on the cube bookshelf. Saving this as inspiration!

Keeping the toilet lid down may not be as effective as you think. Mythbusters proved that the fecal matter found on toothbrushes in bathrooms was pretty much the same as the control:

"The MythBusters kept two untainted toothbrushes in an office far away from the lavatory. At the end of the month-long trial, they sent their toothbrush collection to a microbiologist for bacterial testing.

Astonishingly, all the toothbrushes were speckled with microscopic fecal matter, including the ones that had never seen the inside of a bathroom."

I admit I still do keep my toothbrush in one of those hygienic covers above my sink though, for my sanity. :)

As a NYC resident who continues to live here with all its awesomeness, despite the overall lack of apartment space, thank you (and @somethingisdone). I live in NYC. That's what's important to me. A ranch might be important to you - personally, it's not for me. So live your life and let others live theirs.

Honestly, the people who respond so obviously-defensively about their small-town lives, the insecurity is reeking. I'm not talking about commenters who politely disagree - that's fine. But when you try to put down people who choose to live a different way with arguments that don't even apply to them ("STOP HAVING CHILDREN"), know that your insecure, defensive, desperate attempts at spiteful arguments are obvious, whether or not you intend it that way. To call something "gross" just because you don't have it is not only childish, but it's so obvious you're trying to compensate.

I agree - it's a beautiful transformation I'm sure, but the people who defend the camera trickery are being incredibly naive.

In case anyone hasn't seen this yet, I recommend checking this out - It used to be a Craigslist post that has since been removed (but preserved in screenshot): http://i.imgur.com/Q83oo.jpg

Love the brick & love the silver theme. I've always wanted to do an off-angle with my bed placement, but wasn't sure if it would seem cheesy/forced. But you pulled it off great. Nice job! I'd love to have a room like this.

@magenta: Secret boards are basically private boards. You can add people to them to collaborate, but they won't be public by default like the rest. Really handy, but unfortunately Pinterest limits each user to only three secret boards (I think to keep the focus on sharing and interaction). Check their FAQ for adding them, I believe it's in the board settings.

Before I even checked the details, I was like, "That view is exactly the same as the one in my old Boston apartment," and sure enough it was. Yours, of course, is much more nicely decorated.

Upper East Side resident here, 350 square feet, $1500 rent. Obviously how far east you live/if you have a doorman/other factors contribute to increase in rent, but you can most definitely find cheap (relative to NYC) studios in this area. It may be one of the richest areas to buy, but it's the cheapest area to rent in Manhattan.

Also, please don't judge small spaces simply because you have different priorities. People in NYC who live in small spaces know what else is out there; they opt to live in a great location and sacrifice space. For others, the priorities are the other way around. Worry about yourself.
