I'm going with saving up.
I did that with furniture during our "early American poverty" design era. :)
Basically, I'd buy a sofa or kitchen set on sale and get less than a year öut of it. The microfiber cloth (yuck!) would pill or rip, the arms would get loose and wiggly and the seats would sag. Eventually, I had a couch custom made and then slipcovers custom made on top of it. I've had it about 8 years, it still looks brand new and, most of all, I still look at it and smile.
Sew your own on the cheap with some Kohl's or whatever cheap sheets but spend your money where you'll continue to love it.

Duvet Cover For Less? Good Questions

As the owner of 37 sets of shutters in a Victorian (previous owner owned a window treatment store!!) I understand the tedious painting, dusting process.
But it's worth it.
The after looks all Ikea to me. Or maybe like an X-ray light box. And what's up with the rear-view mirror hangy-thingies?
I'd have gone with a leaded glass or even a -gulp- glass block before I cut the whole light source out.
But, essentially, what's wrong with someone watching you wash the darn dishes? How about saying "hello!" and not being so cloistered?

I bought this very Noguchi knock off for $360. It is dead on, let me tell you. Beautiful finish, great company. Awesome piece.

As a woman, entering the front "door" would scare the hell out of me. That long corridor at night? {shiver}
So, he has quite a chunk of change to spend on his first apartment. I believe I had an "Early American Poverty" theme but, then again, I was 18 and not a late-leaver like so many today!
I just....don't like it. It seem to have odd stuff just for the sake of being odd. Where are those long-term investment pieces? And please don't say slipper chairs! I DESPISE chairs without arms - soooo not comfy.
He is a young Texan, moving to the Big City, living in a penthouse. The end result doesn't reflect any of that. It looks like he gave the ID a go-ahead and let the professional chips fall where they may.

I'll be awful, too...I don't see what is so fantastic about an end table with cords dangling from it, holding an alarm clock, a too-small lamp and a tchotchke. I'm sure it's pretty enough but to be featured in an interior design forum? It doesn't seem up to snuff to me. Sorry. :(
