I just brewed my first batch of beer a couple weeks ago and it was from a 1 gallon kit I got as a gift (Brooklyn Brew Shop, highly recommend for beginners like me!). I live in a 1 BR apartment with a smallish/awkward kitchen and I live alone, so a 5 gallon setup seemed a bit overwhelming. I use the FreshStep multi-cat variety. No one has ever complained of my apt smelling "like cats live here" and honestly it's worked better than any other brand I've tried. I know it's a typical brand, but with 2 kitties that LOVE to use their box, it's a win for me. Vacuuming around the box area works well. I also don't have a great spot for my litter box, so I bought a fancy cabinet to put it in. No one even realizes it's there at first and it cuts down on the tracking around of the litter.
