After reading similar threads on other sites about how to deter cats from hopping in the planters or messing with the soil I recently tried toothpicks. Lots of toothpicks sticking upright in the soil. None of our kitties have been hurt and so far it seems to be working. I tried cut drinking straws first and that didn't work they batted them out. If the toothpick magic goes away I'm going to make custom cut screens to cover the planters.

It looks like herringbone to me too but I think the pattern is just printed on instead of being woven.

I add very watered down coffee to our indoor plants, and grounds to our outdoor plants. I'm not sure all plants would appreciate the acidity but my umbrella tree and my jade plant appreciate a little pick-me-up. For the indoor plants, I'll run a half pot of water through the used grounds, and then after it's cooled I water that down with filtered water and add that to the plants.

Would love to be able to do this but too many bugs here. The mosquitos were soo aweful last year. We tried to do something like this but we couldn't make it through half the movie.

A good example of dark color working in a small space. Very sleek, love the bed, and the zebra print chairs, like the deer head too.

I third jessicamc's comments about declawing cats. So sad that there are vets still doing this and misrepresenting the realities of what this is doing to an animals health and mental wellbeing.

Our kitty curls up under the covers between us for about 10-15 minutes or so for snuggles then crawls out and moves to the end of the bed by our feet. If we owned a dog I wouldn't want them on our bed. Not sure why I feel it's ok for a cat but not a dog..

Wow. That looks incredible, and I didn't even notice the flooring was the same right away. While it added to the dated feel in the before it seems to blend in just fine.

I think the before was fine but I dig the black as well. Gives me some ideas. :)

Sell the tv, use profit to buy a smaller one and mount it on an easel as suggested above. :) Ditto on the killer woodwork too.

That headboard is beautiful and I think that duvet goes with it quite well. While it's not what you were asking for, what about switching out the curtains to colored ones, instead of the duvet? Big pop of color without direct competition to that awesome headboard.

That chandelier is wonderful, too bad you didn't show the sconces as well? I already know where in our house I'd put these if I'm so lucky? :)

This article would have been handy a few days ago. We hosted our first thanksgiving which was also the first largest dinner gathering we've had. I did as much as I could before hand but it's hard to judge just how much food takes up till all the platters and bowls and serving items are filled up. I had already pulled out all of the serving containers I had but it would have saved me confusion if I had done that sticky note trick. I was all fine until people started asking me which items were for which so they could help fill them up. Had a little freak out moment there but recovered quickly. :) The chalkboard/frame menu idea is cute. Some of my grand ideas, toasts and plans disappeared in the chaos but it was a great evening none the less.

Nita, perhaps they use those instead of paper towels and simply grab one of those for wipe ups, or maybe instead of napkins?

Love it. Inspiring. Reminds me that the first thing people see when they walk in our door is a stairway leading downstairs to an ugly empty wall. Hm..

I used to feel bad at declining invitations but we've discovered the power of 'no' and have learned it's better to politely say you won't be able to attend rather than leaving people hanging or try to make weak excuses. Sometimes we don't want to lose the 1 day of a whole month where we having planned and we want to chill. If I'm the host I'd like people to tell me if they can or won't be going. Maybe isn't helpful when trying to plan for food and drinks. No need for lies or excuses I won't take it personally when people can't attend.
