My body doesn't regulate it's own temperature very well so I tend to go towards extremes temperature wise and can faint or get sick if I get too hot, so for me air conditioning is a must. Most places in the south have it. The humidity here can be oppressive and there aren't a lot of breezes unless you live on the shore.

In Cape Cod where my family has a beach house there isn't AC and some nights it is ridiculously hard to sleep, PLUS the windows are always open so the humidity inside the house is high so blankets, furniture, rugs, etc. tend to feel damp and mold. I HATE that. I wish there was AC up there.

Also, our AC is quiet. Far quieter than opening the windows would be in our neighborhood. It also prevents allergens.

I have to wonder if some of you commentators have ever seen wallpaper after 50 years. It usually looks terrible and is not salvageable. East Hampton has similar weather has Cape Cod and our Cape house had wallpaper put up in the sixties (and it still has wood paneling from the forties). It was gross. The humidity and dampness of the shore had caused it to dimple and peel, and sometimes grow mold. It also tends to fade in sunlit rooms, leaving strange 'dark shadows' where furniture used to be. If there was ever a smoker in that house then it probably also smelled.

I'm not saying you couldn't salvage if it was in good shape, but you can't tell it's condition from the photos. Also, maybe they just don't like wallpaper?

Personally I think the house has gorgeous bones and the white paint does a lot to brighten, enlarge, and modernize the home.

@Borage - Not everyone in the United States lives in an area of clean, drinkable tap water. I know several people who do not live where municiple water is a thing. They instead use a well and pump. Incidentally that water tastes awful and is sometimes filled with nasty things you do not want to be drinking.

To poster - Recycle them, give them away, return to a store.

I absolutely love the tile in the shower. That is so gorgeous. The entire space looks brighter, cleaner, and bigger. Great job!

I do a lot of childcare and about 7/10 girls I know love pink. Also I'm a little frustrated by some of the comments implying that it's undesirable for girls to love pink or barbies or more 'traditionally' girly things. It's fine if girls don't like those things but it's equally fine if they do and neither should be encouraged over the other.

As for the bathroom: Love the recessed medicine cabinet and the beautiful glass front of the shower, as well as the tiles in the shower itself. The vanity is also very nice.

I personally love the lighter counter tops. They add a warmth to the room that I don't think black would have.

I love the white tile on the walls and the wood flooring! Also a much more efficient use of the space.

I would either add doors and paint them the same color as the walls or else tear them out completely. Those things are ugly, yikes!

Love this take on Ombre. Very muted and elegant. I would probably go for matching glass handles but that's just me. Nicely done. (and so much better than the before, yowch)

I would buy white 12 inch square tiles. They are easy to install yourself and the larger tiles would work better with all the smaller tiles on the wall. For the handles sometimes you can find 1 or 2 replacement tiles like those for cheap at reno places. Painting or reglazing the tiles also sounds like a good, cheaper alternative.

Also to people wanting to 'save' the pink bathroom. We redid a pink bathroom and found mold everywhere behind those tiles. After we redid it the place smelled better and my allergies cleared up. After fifty/sixty years many of these bathrooms are just in terrible condition. There's one in a beach house we partially own that has broken and stained tiles. Once a tile even fell off the wall and nearly hit my mother in the head while she was showering! We want to redo it but since it's a shared house we can't get the others to agree. Also some people just don't like pink.

(PS; love the sink! I hope it's in good enough condition to keep.)
