The Beachwood Café is a cheerful, lively space that feels so welcoming you never want to leave. The whimsy is a large part of its charm. So glad, Abigail, that you successfully borrowed some of that whimsy for your dining room.

For Granada Tile, this project was a delight from start to finish. We loved the owner Patti Peck, the architect Barbara Bestor, and the fact that they selected our handmade cement floor tiles to complement the decor.

Here's the key question: are they cement or are they ceramic? Depending on the answer, the treatment options will be quite different. The two can look deceptively similar as shown on this website page: http://www.granadatile.com/cement_vs_ceramic_tile.php. The easiest way to tell is to look at the back of the tile if you can lift out a loose piece.

If they are definitely cement, I would agree with Andy Fleishman's recommended course of treatment. If they are ceramic, then I would contact one of the antique encaustic tile purveyors and ask their advice.

Wishing you all the best with your beautiful floors!

The backsplash is the Normandy - 941 in the Echo Collection in classic grey and white. It's a historic French pattern so it has already stood the test of time. Enjoy!

Actually, the Ardoz-924 in the Echo Collection from Granada Tile shown above is also a cement tile. You're right though, handpoured cement tiles do run less than most handpainted ceramic tiles and they last a lifetime. There are a wonderful number of variations on a theme of chevron, from material to color to size. Check out Vigo and Santander as variations and play with colorways at: http://www.granadatile.com/echo_catalogue.php. What fun!
