What a great idea. I'm one of those people who's always running out the door slightly late because I can never decide on an outfit in the morning. I'm gonna start doing this.

Getting Psyched Up: Dress On Display

Having a "dump zone" just inside the front door, where I always dump my handbag, shopping bags, coat, shoes, umbrella, small pets—whatever is encumbering me when I walk through the door. It's a terrible, lazy habit, especially since it would only take a few minutes to put everything where it belongs. Truth told, I haven't worked on fixing it.

I don't get the feeling-lonely-when-eating-alone thing at all. If you enjoy food and enjoy preparing meals, I don't see why eating alone should be any more "lonely" than doing anything else alone. I love eating alone, whether at home or at a restaurant. I also love eating with others—food in any circumstance is to be relished. I'm just guessing, but I wonder if people who feel lonely when eating alone simply feel lonely in general... :-/

I toughed it out in NYC for years, and by the time I left, communism was starting to look real good.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tour! My heart skipped a little beat on this one because it's just SO pretty! All the little details and hits of interest give away JoAnn's personality (which must be delightful!), and it's very eclectic but not overdone or crowded or overwhelming the way some eclectic spaces loof and feel. I'll bet this space becomes positively magical when you throw in JoAnn and a group of her friends, good food, music, laughter. Yes, this space just says LIFE to me. Marvelous...

@agentleman—Your home is awesome. My first though browsing through the tour was that if mermaids lived in houses, they would want to live in YOUR house. I get this feeling of swimming in clear waters surrounded by coral reefs and sea life. It's comforting and very inviting, and simply beautiful. If I were your neighbor, I'd be trying to get invited around at every opportunity. Thank you for opening it up to the e-world!

(And, although it's interesting to hear the stories behind the nude images, you don't need to be an apologist for your decorating choices just because one person objects on his/her own moral grounds.)

@elector—The problem is not that you're a "prude"—it's that you're self-righteous, judgmental and a moralist. You are making very strong insinuations about the parenting choices of two people you don't even know, based on trivial details of their home decor. It's like they've INVITED you into their home to have a look, and the first thing you come up with is an indictment of their parenting skills based on a couple images containing nudity or alluding to erotic art, and the presence of "horrible" Bratz dolls. That says something about YOU, not about THEM.

One of my favorite house tours ever. I love the way they marry natural with industrial elements and then pepper it with little hits of whimsy here and there (e.g. the mini VW van collection, the Alcoholics Anonymous book next to the booze bottles). I especially love the way they leave breathing room in the space, rather than filling every shelf and available storage space with STUFF. It's just WONDERFUL. Not one thing about it that I don't love.

I'm pretty sure the reason I rarely get sick is that I never disinfect anything, and therefor constantly ingest small amount of bacteria that build up my immune system. By contrast, my friends who walk around with disinfectant in their handbags and are always cleaning their hands with that stuff every time they touch something in the public realm (e.g. handrails in the subway, door handles, tables at Starbucks) get sick all the time. Too much sterility destroys your natural immune system, period.
