I hate unloading the dishwasher, grocery shopping (mainly because of all the people & their grocery carts are ALWAYS in my way) and walking the dogs. I love my dogs but we have 5 dogs with 5 different personalities on the walk so I have to walk them in 2 separate groups. It takes up to an hour a day but it does make them happy. I also dislike doing laundry because our machines are 2 flights down in the basement.

Most of the rest of the chores I don't mind at all. I like having a tidy house so the end results are always worth the work. My husband does far less chores than me because he is at work more than I am. But the few chores he does do help me out a lot - waking up early to let out the dogs and feed them, taking out the trash/recycling. He doesn't seem to mind doing them so it works!

What Household Tasks Do You Most Love and Hate?

I have to say even though my house was already mostly tidy and organized I did also benefit from the CURE. I purged a few more things, organized my closets more and even bought a new lamp. I know how I finally want to finish my office now too. Which I will do in the next couple of weeks. I am feeling even better about the shape of my home and can't wait until it warms up to enjoy the outside too. Maybe there could be a spring CURE for the outside?? Thanks AT & Janel

I think trying to keep a set sleep schedule helps. I usually head to bed at least an hour before I actually plan to turn out the lights. I get settled in and read or play solitaire on my iPad until I can barely keep my eyes open & then reach over to turn out the light. I also enjoy a glass or two of red wine in the evening as well.

I'm pretty much done with everything after this past wknd. My hubby put in another shelf in the office closet so I could organize our extra bedding better & he changed out an old electrical outlet. All that is left is for me is to get another lamp for our bedroom which won't feel like a chore at all = shopping. :) Looking forward to a lazy but tidy February in our house!

I would like to see maybe a diet "cure" next January for the food section. Not so much for losing weight but for eating healthier. I think we all get in an eating rut & need suggestions on how to work in healthy foods to our everyday diet/meal planning.

Day 19: Catch Up & Take a Photo Apartment Therapy January Cure

I have all my bills set up for "paperless" and use my iPad to keep track of what is due & when. I pay bills every Friday or payday online so I don't have all this paper clutter or statements to save. This helps a lot with sticking to a budget too because I have all my bills on one page for the month. I pay what needs to be paid each Friday & whatever is leftover we can use for groceries, entertainment, etc.... i have my savings deposit automatically taken out of my check each week so i dont have to be so disciplined with that. I do file away our tax returns as well as any manuals & booklets on any appliances or equipment we have & other important documents, etc.... I also keep a folder in my office desk drawer to collect any tax info/statments/deductions throughout the year so it is all ready to go at tax time. My desk could use a old cleaning out though.

Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure

I'm feeling a little underwhelmed (honestly not bragging here) that I really don't have much to do for the "cure" at my home. My husband and I completed all our major projects last year and I keep the house tidy/organized/clean the rest of the time. I am lucky enough to work from home a couple of days a week and we don't have children (we do have furry children) so it is easy to keep up on the daily chores. I also did a pretty good clean/purge of my kitchen before the holidays since we were having overnight guests. I had even just had a piece of artwork framed just before the holidays too.
With all that being said... I did decide I would tackle my cookbook/receipe shelf today in my pantry. I have a folder full of receipes I have printed off over the years that needs to be tamed and several cookbooks we never use to go through.
One thing that helps us keep on top of clutter is we have a designated corner in our basement (I realize not everyone has a basement) that we put everything we want to get rid of or no longer use during the year. Once a year my neighborhood has an area garage sale. All I have to do is tag the items right before the sale and out of the house it goes. And we make a little money to boot!

Day 10: Work on Your Goal Project Apartment Therapy January Cure

We have a room just as an office that I work from most of the time. The room is upstairs so it keeps me up & down the stairs several times a day for beverages & food. This way I get a little exercise during the day instead of sitting for hours. In the winter when it is cold I usually work in bed with a laptop tray. On those days I generally feel guilty for being in bed all day but it is much warmer in bed.

My biggest problem is I find myself not changing out of my pj's until the afternoon sometimes. I cant seem to find a trick to break this habit. Does anyone else find it difficult getting dressed when you work from home?

Working from Home: Where Do You Actually Work?

I'm a complete neat freak but have 5 indoor dogs of various sizes. We LOVE our dogs. I keep a baby gate on the good sofa in the living room to keep the dogs off it. I stash the baby gate away when guests come over. This way I have fur free seating for people. The sofa in the tv room always has a cover on it & I wash once a week. The dogs are allowed on this sofa but the cover can be taken off at a moments notice & stashed away as well for more fur free seating. The bed also has a blanket over the duvet cover to protect it so the dogs are allowed on the bed. The blanket can be quickly folder down towards the foot of the bed whenever I want the bed to look nice for company. Of course the most important thing I do is vacuum everyday to stay on top of all the fur. None of these solutions take more than a few minutes a day. My house is cleaner than some non-pet homes & my dogs are still very happy & well cared for. I poop scoop the yard twice a day too so the backyard stays nice/clean as well. It's all worth it.

Pets On Furniture: Yay or Nay?

We already had an IKEA kitchen when we bought our house but we wanted to upgrade the laminate counter tops & vinyl floor. I have always loved the classic Carrara marble but my husband did warn me it would stain and I do like my red wine. So we we went with a dark marble on the main counter tops & Carrara marble on the island. I like the contrast a lot but the etching drives me crazy! I have yet to stain the marble but as another person posted, the etching happens even from a few seconds on the surfaces. Even water seems to cause it. So my advice would be if you have a sunny kitchen don't go with marble. Every time the sun hits the surfaces you see all the imperfections glaring at you. I wish I had been more informed as well. At least we got the counter tops at wholesale prices.
