I love strands of white Christmas lights for year round use. Love them!! I have a string of white Christmas lights running above the picture rail in my house. Some may call it tacky, I call it perfect ambient lighting for parties and watching TV (especially when you rent). What Is Your Design Confession? |

Two ideas: 1. Keep the room blue - maybe change the shade a bit. A teal blue with some more green in it will go better with the warmer elements, but still look good with the white trim. If you keep the living dark colored, paint that entry way area a lighter color so it brightens up that space - I think that is what is feeling so closed about the space. Also move that Expedit bookshelf so it doesn't break up the room so much. What Color to Paint Our Living Room? Good Questions |

This couldn't be more timely. I just caught my cat with his head in my bedside water glass last night (even though he has his own clean water just a few feet away!!). Carafe is the perfect solution. Great suggestion I wouldn't have thought of, even though it seems so obvious. Best Bedside Carafes 2012 Apartment Therapy's Annual Guide |

I have the same relationship with orange. Used to hate it. It reminded me of outdated 70's furniture. But then I painted my kitchen a vibrant orange-red and I fell in love. Orange is one of most favorite colors now! Maybe I invited warm colors into my life to balance out rainy Portland weather :) The Thin End Of The Wedge: Could I Actually Be Starting To Like Orange? |

Microfiber. Microfiber. Microfiber. I bought a sage green microfiber sofa and loveseat almost 8 years ago and they look almost new still. Super stain resistant, not showing wear in the fabric at all. I have a cat with no front claws* so I don't know if it stands up to active clawing, but no visible snags from back claws or anything else life threw at it. Definitely try peaches! I grilled some peach halves and some pineapple spears last year and people near lost their minds. So delicious. 5 Things You Should Be Grilling But Probably Aren't |

Go with the shorter ones of those two if that style is what your heart is set on. The tall one looks way too tall to be comfortable. What Height for Dressers Used as Nightstands? Good Questions |

I think you first want to decide whether your focus is having a good set up for company or good TV viewing. Doing both in that room might not be super feasible. Consider getting rid of the other couch in storage and working with your existing furniture. Another piece of furniture in that room will seem crowded. Try flipping rug 90 degrees so it is parallel with the fireplace and put the couch facing the two chairs facing so it creates a conversation area. Pull the couches and the chairs away from the walls and put the edges of the furniture on the rug so it creates a cozy conversation space., Ideas for Arranging Two Sofas? Good Questions |

The apartment is awesome, but I want to know about the shoes too! I feel bad that was the first thing I noticed - I was like hot damn, I haven't coveted a pair of shoes that much in a while. I live in Portland, is it someplace local? Joan's Artist Abode House Tour |
