This guy is absurd. I've been on plenty of business trips with people like this and you're not fooling anyone. Not sure what kind of clients he has, but a guy who washes one pair of underwear in the sink every night is not someone I'd want to do business with.

I can easily pack for a 4 day trip with just my Saddleback Briefcase. And that includes taking enough changes of underwear, socks, etc.

Washing your clothes seems a bit excessive for such a short trip. Underwear/socks are small enough they do not take up much space. Bring an extra plastic grocery bag and a dryer sheet to keep dirty clothes in (and keep any potential smell down).

For the camera, is it really necessary to bring multiple lenses? Challenge yourself with one focal length. After traveling with a number of lenses and not using them all I would often travel with just my Canon 5D2 and Sigma 50 f1.4 lens. Now I simply pack my Fuji X100 which is great because it still gives me good image quality at a huge size/weight savings.

Regarding clothes, you simply need to bring versatile items. If I'm trying to pack light for a business trip I'll pack a grey pair of slacks and probably some khakis. Two color shirts (white, blue, or something along those lines), one belt, one pair of shoes, shoe trees, and a blazer that I'd wear on the plane. That results in 4 potential outfits taking up minimal space. Also, roll your clothes, don't fold them. They'll fit in your bag easier, will be more compact, and won't wrinkle as much.

If this guy's getting press for such a poor packing job, it makes me think I should make one of these videos!

Kennii said exactly what I was going to.

So you're going to keep your computer up and running all day while you're away for a week or two? What a waste. Unless there was something extremely important I needed to access it's not worth it. And if there were, well, I'd probably sack up and actually take my laptop with me!

I answered yes, but it depends on the situation. I still use a Moleskine notebook to jot down most of my notes, but from time to time I use my iPad with a stylus. Typing on the keyboard may seem unprofessional.

Also helpful to jailbreak/unlock your phone before selling it. I've been using iPhones since the first one and have yet to sell one for less than I paid. Essentially I use the phone for a year, sell it for a profit, and use that money to buy a new one. I also keep the original accessories and my phone is in brand new condition.

I've been using the S90 since it was released to replace my old G10. Love it for a carry anywhere camera and even if I do use it for a P&S, image quality is better due to the slightly larger sensor. It's also a nice change if I don't want to carry my 5D2 or x100.

Re VJ: What do you mean by 'basic Rebel'? Are you referring to the original (300D) or XT (350D)? If so, you're talking about a camera that's between 6-8 years old. Sensor tech has come a long way since then. Also, as pointed out above, are you shooting with the kit lens and without a tripod? I'd say that's a given that you're going to get some noise especially seeing as the kit lens only opens up to f3.5. The S95 opens up to f2 allowing more light, resulting in faster shutter speeds, better bokeh, and the potential for lower ISO/noise.

I swear, posts just keep going downhill. Unplggd, if you want to ramp up articles that's all well and good, but how about keeping the quality up? These new writers are garbage.

Computer Shock: Moving from Mac to PCs for Work

another quality post from the new staff *sarcasm*

you switched to a MBP just because of the build quality? If you really wanted to, you could find similar build quality in a PC. Like others said, you're comparing a cheap PC to a top of the line Mac laptop.

And why did you switch to OSX? you didn't give a single reason other than 'because the MBP came with OSX'. So really, you bought a mac because you wanted to be trendy.

I've been using mac laptops for 8 years now (although I have PC laptops for work too). This article is ridiculous and pointless.

@kkushkush - what does my comment have to do with talking while driving? It's not like that's the only time you can use a bluetooth headset (although it's the only time I do and do so at a minimum). My comment was directed at the half dozen people saying they don't know what the jawbone is or what it does.

If you like the Dodo case, check out the Portenzo case. Better build quality and it actually keeps your ipad in the case! Dodo's edges don't do a good job and the ipad can fall out pretty easily (defeating the entire purpose).

If people don't know this is a bluetooth headset, I'd argue they wouldn't even know how to use it. Why bother entering?

I'd suggest looking at Portenzo cases both for the Kindle and the iPad. As much as the Dodo case seemed to get the 'book case' right, their holding system is terrible as is their quality control. I've since gotten a Portenzo case for the iPad and it is leaps and bounds above what Dodo is offering.

I'm hoping you can use VLC player via iphone/ipad to push content onto ATV2. That alone will sell me on an ATV. Otherwise, I'm sure jailbreakers will get on it soon enough and open up other formats. All I want is avi and mkv!!

I've been using the Dakine Sequence for the last 3-4 years and love it! Large enough to hold two bodies, two flashes, four lenses, and all my batteries, cards, chargers, filters, flash accessories, etc. The padding on the straps (shoulders, chest, and waist) is fantastic and it is very comfortable for long trips (even though when you fill it up the pack gets heavy!). The inside of the bag has a removable camera block which is great if you wanted to use your pack for carrying other things or wanted to slim down your kit and just take the block. Inside the block are padded 'walls' held in by velcro which can be moved into any orientation to fit your particular gear.

Another backpack bag that I highly recommend is f-stop. They make unbelievable bags with a variety of sizing to fit your kit. Like the Sequence, they also have removable camera blocks. One of my buddies has the Tilopa and it is fantastic. Not enough of a change for me to switch packs, but if I ever felt the need to get another bag, it would be one of theirs.

http://fstopgear.com/

In the end, I think it's best to consider a few things:
1) get a bag that can accommodate all your gear and a few additional purchases you may have planned. If you buy something to fit your current kit, but know you're going to buy an addition lens/flash, whatever, its pointless to buy a small bag only to have it not fit your gear in your next purchase.
2) buy a quality bag as it is worth it. If you cop-out and get a cheap bag, you're going to be paying more in the long run as you'll have to replace them more often.
3) get something that's comfortable to carry. That canvas duffle pictured in the post looks great, but c'mon, with that much gear that bag would be brutal to carry!
4) Look for packs that can pull double duty. I personally love camera blocks. They can easily be rearranged as your kit changes, carried separately if you want to lug around less gear, and when removed you have a pack which can act as a different bag for whatever else you have!
5) Find a pack that suits your needs. Travel a lot? Maybe you want a hard case like Pelican. Fly a lot? Look for a bag that fits in overhead compartments (and check different countries you fly to as different countries have different restrictions). Visit wet places? Get a waterproof bag or one that has a rain cover. Getting the right kind of bag for the situation will help its longevity and ensure your gear is kept protected!

Cheers,
Matt
