I have yet to find a tree skirt that actually fits around the tree stand without looking like crap. Most, if not all, of the tree skirts I've seen have a very tiny opening to fit around the tree, usually just enough to around the trunk. Am I doing it wrong? I assume most people put their trees in a stand with water?

I think I'm going to take the same route as most of you and just throw some sheets around it.

For me it usually depends on the number of guests. If you invite 50 people to a party, the price of invites and postage can really get up there.. and honestly I'm not sure it would make my friends more inclined to respond. If it's a smaller gathering, then sure. I would love to receive real invites in the mail but I think among my age group, it just doesn't happen unless it's a wedding.

Yes, this does seem totally wasteful and somewhat hypocritical to say it's justified because it "barely qualifies as food". I'm just going by what the OP wrote, but it seems as if she didn't really try to find something else to do with it.. or perhaps just refuse it in the first place. I'm sure her friends would understand if she asked them not to gift her any more candy since she's not going to eat it. I'm also sure her friends would be irked to know she just accepts it and then throws it away. Not only is food being wasted, but whatever money/time/effort the friends put into giving it to her is also thrown away. By not saying anything, it's just going to perpetuate the cycle.

My husband has actually tried the Sam Adams Utopia. He said it was disgusting while everyone else exclaimed how amazing it was. I think they were trying to justify the price. I didn't want to try it because it smelled like soy sauce.

@rural.. I know patents expire and that is why generic medication exists. I'm looking at it from a moral viewpoint, not a legal one. If you want to look at it solely from a legal viewpoint, then you should have no problem with knockoffs since the their design wasn't protected in the first place, right? Even if the designs were patented in the 1950's, it would've expired long ago since patents are only renewed in very rare cases.

Again, I do have a problem with knockoffs of designers who are still active and selling their products to make a living. But let's not pretend the guys at Herman Miller are sitting in their backyard sheds hand crafting Eames chairs.

I really only see a problem with knockoffs of designs from designers who are still relying on their designs to make a living or who are relatively new. I see no problem with buying an Eames knockoff since the only people profiting from it are probably not struggling in any way.

When products have such a huge price difference, you can't really use the argument of "they are stealing my livelihood". Um. No. The person buying a $100 knockoff would have never shelled out the thousands the original company is asking for. If the knockoff didn't exist, they just wouldn't have bought it. Period. Also, a commentor from the original article made a good point. Would you tell people to stop buying generic medication because they are stealing from the original pharmaceutical company? Probably not.

It's funny how people are appalled by "sammie", but "sammich" is ok. I don't see the difference. They are both made up words for a sandwich.

I'm with jaimemariel.. I cannot stand egg yolks and will usually try to separate them out if I can't get egg whites only. I could eat a million egg whites, though.

I think because the actual chain section is very short, it wouldn't move around that much?

a lot of these comments make me sad. try to be at least a little more open minded, people. do you think your "normal" chicken feels less sad about being eaten than these "prettier" ones? and sorry to burst your bubble, but chickens have heads and feet.. removing them for the american palette doesn't mean they didn't have them at one point. i didn't grow up eating things doused in cheese and mayonnaise, but far be it for me to judge those who did.
