That Atonement cover gets five Stars. Also check out The Black Sheep (though it has nothing to do with the events in the book) and The Tin Drum covers on the Web site.

It's funny...the person who posted the question clearly stated they want a neutral or white color, yet so many people here ignore that.

Color For North-Facing Living Room? Good Questions

I have some large rooms on the north side of my house, with window walls. I think north light is beautiful, even though many think it problematic. I have found that saturated colors do best in small rooms with such light, but for larger ones I have gone with so-called whites with a lot of yellow in them. One room is done in a Benjamin Moore historic color -- Hawthorne Yellow. Another is BM Seashell, which appears nearly white on the wall but actually has a lot of yellow-orange in it. The trick is to stay away from gray undertones.

I grew up in a home with white wool carpets, white walls, white sofas in the living room. When color was introduced later on in the family hime, it was pale, subdued, boring. In my own home I have no white walls. I love rich color, texture, (limited) pattern, strong contrast. I am not my mother...thank goodness.

How Did Your Parents' Color Choices Influence Your Own?

Some of these suggestions are awfully ambitious. Since you are doing so much inside, you probably don't have a huge budget for outside. Unify the color all the way across the house, do a contrasting window frame and fascia board color, replace the awning with a shed roof or similar, paint the door a kicky color. Then put your energy and money into front- yard landscaping. I see loads of possibility there.

Your home is not "ugly". It simply has a funny paint scheme. I believe home colors should play well with the look of the neighborhood. It appears you neighbors' homes are white or very pale gray...conservative. How about a deep teal, like the Ralph Lauren interior color featured on AT's "Teal" post today? Do a creamy white for the trim and fascia. Paint the door a saffron orange-yellow. Put in some plants with variegated foliage and bright berries or blooms. I don't know your setback restrictions, but you might look into doing a small enclosed courtyard in front of the left (as viewed from outside) side of your home. But that's another question...

I have been wanting something exactly like this as a guest house/studio on my rural property. The problem I run into is cost. By the time transportation is added -- even with semi-local companies -- the cost climbs to the level of having the thing built on site. I couldn't live in something so tiny full-time, but to have as an escape, a workspace, or as a place to stash house guests...it's perfect.

That last room is awesome. There are so many overstayed kids' rooms featured here on AT. Some of them are downright gloomy. Leif must have fun parents.

Photo three. I want that.

Teal is a favorite color of mine. I don't find I hard to work with, as long as you avoid going muddy with your decor. As you can see in the photos, it is lifted not only by bright white, but by anything hinting of orange.

Maggie13, I had the same reaction. Another way to get gifts off your friends and family...again.

In the divorces I see, the ex-partners are usually trying to pare down possessions, not get new ones. For a younger person without much stuff, though, a much more dignified option is a housewarming party for his or her new start, as the cubby posted.

Um, Andrea...someone who doesn't love an item posted here is not a "hater". The Bee Charmer seems to have a bee up the whatever about these guys, but it's okay to dislike a design.

I'm impressed by your creative use of modest-priced furnishings. I was surprised when I read the source list. What I truly covet, though, is your grandmother's gorgeous credenza. That and maybe the Chanel jacket (what a find!).

And your little dog, too.

Jeeze, it seems the answer is "hire someone". If that's your perfect home in the photo, I assume you already have maid service, no? My advice is to pick your favorite child (you already have) and concentrate on that. Keep your condo as spare as you can stand to. Treat it like a hotel. That way it doesn't occupy your mind.

If you are the sole occupant of your house, you might consider taking a quiet boarder in a spare room, for security and daily oversight of the property. Rent can be adjusted against tasks like grocery shopping, watering plants, taking out the garbage cans, etc. it's not a huge expense to create a separate, keyed entry to a downstairs room. I know lots of people who have managed part-time properties in this way.

How To Simplify Homekeeping for Weekend House? Good Questions

Is there really so much leeway in moving kitchens in NY apartment buildings? In the condos I've had experience with you had to back kitchen to kitchen and bath to bath. You couldn't just move one to another room without the linkage. But the L-kitchen is a good idea.

When I look at your floor plan I think: combine the closets into one closet/dressing room, unify the flooring by going new or completing the parquet, split the studio space about 10 feet from the window with a retractable wall (transluscent) or curtain or panel and have sleeping quarters and desk by the window. I'd get rid of the stub of wall by the bathroom.

The whole esthetic of "buying new wood and making it look old" ( from their site) is something I don't get. But beyond personal taste, the console proportions are wrong. It's just too massive, too deep.

The red counter is scrumptious! But the CPU ter chairs are entirely too tall. No room for legs to fit under the counter...which is a pet peeve of mine.

I have been looking high and low for comfortable, attractive counter chairs that swivel and are the correct height. Hard to find.

I guess I'm missing something here. I prefer the quietness of the before photo. The colors and patterns in the "after" are too jumbled, to my eye.

Something about using an artist's easel for a tv bother me on a visceral level. It's clever, but I would so prefer a piece of art.
