My dad installed IKEA cabinets at one of his remodeling projects, and his review of them was that they look really nice and are good quality, but are an enormous pain to put together. Apparently the cabinet assembly doubled his project time, and considering he bills labor by the hour, they could get pretty expensive if you're not DIYing it. He also felt like he needed to add additional reinforcement before putting on a stone countertop. Not a dealbreaker, but another extra step. Are IKEA Kitchen Cabinets a Good Idea? Good Questions |

I'm going to tackle the little shelving unit by my front door. It's a Billy bookcase from IKEA, and despite my usual IKEA wizardry, I put on the backing with the brown side facing the shelves... oops. Although it serves its purpose of making a defined "entry" and giving me a place to put my keys, it attracts clutter. Mostly mail and outerwear. So, getting mail and outerwear containment installed is important. Also, I use the bottom shelf for my boots, and although it's the perfect place for them, snowy muddy boots make for a muddy shelf! I love the cabinet, and that it's easy to find! I'm moving cross-country for an extended work trip, and this looks like a great way to organize the craft tools I use most and the yarn I intend to use next.
