We don't have a real tree, as my finacee and stepdaughter are both allergic (which is a real shame as I love the smell of a real Christmas tree!), but we have actually managed to find a gorgeous, full, almost-real-looking fake tree which we've had for 3 years now. We always have the same theme: gold and white. We have started a new tradition (important I think in building a 'new family life') of going to London's Liberty one day in December every year, and buy a maximum of 2 new tree decorations from their mind-blowing Christmas departme, usually choosing something representing the year just passed! They are not inexpensive decorations, so 2 is still a bit of a splurge. This tradition has left us with a tree full of white and gold ornaments - but only one of each and they all mean something to us! I love it! :)

To seal wood worktops you can use Danish Oil - a couple of coats (or more like 3-4 the first time you do it) and you can watch as water pearls on top of it. However, it smells very strong and there have been discussions over how appropriate it is to use in kitchens. IKEA sells a treatment oil for their worktops called BEHANDLA (meaning 'treat' as in treatment, in Swedish) which is approved for use in kitchens, and works exactly the same way. You can use a diluted bleach cleaner on it, but I would recommend retreating it 2-3 times a year, and one of those times to give it a bit of a sand to keep it looking fresh.

Daniel over at manhattan-nest.com has used (I believe) this exact mirror in his long and quirky hallway! It's tucked around a corner, so you only really notice it on your way out, but it fits the space perfectly and adds so much to it! Need to find a way to incorporate one into my own life soon... :)

I live in a studio (so everything open plan, but the bathroom) and I've found on nights when I struggle to sleep, the sound of my dishwasher running lulls me into a sweet sleep in no time! It must be that muffled swishing and swooshing going on in there... :) And no, don't worry, I don't run it empty!!

All great suggestions! Makes me stop and think how fortunate I am to be living in this amazing city... :)
I would like to add to the 'Eat' section though - I was recently introduced to The Folly, just by Monument station. A one-of-a-kind type of restaurant with fantastic food (everything with their own twist, but simple and yummy - and beautifully served), fabulous interiors and a great atmosphere! Go! See! Taste! :)
