Spaghetti squash instead of pasta. The easiest way to cook s'ghetti squash is in the slow cooker: 1 cup of water, low setting, for 7ish hours, scoop out the seeds, and fork out the "noodles." Use it in place of s'ghetti with sauce and bison meatballs. Also, if you squeeze out ALL of the moisture, it kicks ass in any kind of "bake, " from a mac-n-cheese recipes to baked ziti kinds of things. Almost zero carbs. Not to be a killjoy (a downer, not the terrible film), but observing roly polies in their natural element is pretty easy and very entertaining. It is probably best to leave these little fellows in their happy dark, damp place, breaking down all forms of organic matter, where they are truly doing themselves and your garden/yard/Earth worlds of good. I write this as a former pre-school teacher who has witnessed kids spending hours watching the roly poly world OUTSIDE...not in a plastic box. (The roly polies, not the kids.) How about the old-fashioned, pull-down school maps, the kind that are on rollers? I've come across several in flea markets lately. The really cool ones are a little faded and show configurations of countries that don't even exist anymore; I saw one that even included the Belgian Congo. Schools are dumping their maps because most classrooms now have projectors attached to computers for their maps exercises. You can probably get something pretty cheap. Also, you can find large format blueprints for all sorts of things (bridges and other feats of engineering) that are interesting. Best of luck! Ideas for Giant Wall in New Loft? Good Questions |
