i don't shoo any of our (4) cats off of anything ... i invited them into my home with the intention of sharing my life with them. and that includes my furniture. keeping the nails clipped and offering up a large, attractive cat tree takes care of the upholstery. as for the hair -- invest in one of those great big lint rollers, use often, and then everyone is happy. meaning, of course -- a simple light sanding AND a little mineral oil makes it look brand new! Apartment Therapy - AT Survey: What's the Best Countertop Material? |

we used galvanized in our kitchen after reading about it here -- it's funny that it is the darkest paint color we've ever used, but the only one we've simply never second-guessed. it's gorgeous!! ColorTherapy: The Blue and Brown Palette |

and my new name for the contest was obviously a sarcastic comment on the judges' picks. there are other attractive ways of dealing with home media besides buying the largest tv, mounting it on a wall, and hiding the crap. Small Cool Tech 2007: The Winners! |

hiding the components is an easier way of dealing with them than designing a system that makes them attractive. since we are dealing with a "small and cool" space, we didn't have an extra closet to hide our stuff away in and we didn't want to add another piece of bulky furniture simply for the purpose of camouflage.
