Seriously? TWO people live here and you don't have enough 'necessary' things to fill those bookshelves, or the shelves over the trashcan? I'm sorry but I find that hard to believe- this looks like a poorly decorated weekly rental apartment. A couple cereal boxes or some jars of spices aren't going to ruin your whole design aesthetic! I agree with everyone who said it looks like you haven't unpacked yet. Adam's Streamlined Simplicity Small Cool Contest |

That would make a perfect built-in bar! I would put cool knick-knacks on the top couple shelves (maybe some vintage mirrored beer signs), then your liquor bottles and mixers on the shelves right above the part that sticks out. On the shelf that sticks out I'd put a pretty bar set, with the ice bucket, shaker, and cocktail glasses. On the very bottom shelf put some colorful, folded bar rags. You can never have enough bar rags. If you have the option, painting the whole thing a color might make it look more intentional. Might be cute to just paint the bottom part that sticks out. God this looks horrible and SO impractical! I would need to quit my job to clean and organize this kitchen full time. Meccanica: Gorgeously Minimal & Modular Kitchen System by Valcucine |

This works great if your pots and pans are beautiful colors or if all your cups are cutely mismatched while conveying the same quirky, vintage feel, but my practical, ugly Analon pans and second-hand plastic cups are going to stay hidden, thank you very much. There's a reason cabinets were invented! Anyone with a set of copper pans already has them on display, anyways. These open shelves are a trend that will and should die sooner rather than later. I love it. You guys showed a level of restraint in the decor that makes the space reminiscent of Shaker-style homes, with a modern twist. I don't think there is a thing missing, and I love the flag. You homemade furniture is unbelievably gorgeous. Well done! Sean & Sara's Minimal Americana House Tour |

Sorry but this is not only totally off-topic but also horribly written. Aren't there enough hack relationship advice columns on the internet? The house I grew up in had one of these, except narrower. I think my parents took it out when they remodeled later on. A 3-year-old can get past a baby gate, right? You can tell him/her not to go out there, and explain why, but it won't work! My sister and I played on the ledge all the time. I also fell down the stairs several times as a child (and they were wood stairs- it looks like you have carpet, so you're in good shape). You can't bubble wrap babies! They'll live. Trust me, if you install bars around it or something that makes for an even better jungle gym. How To Baby Proof This Stairwell? Good Questions |

I love your place! I live in DC too and I am familiar with the challenges of small spaces (and litter boxes!). I was wondering if you sell your botanical prints. The ones on display in your home are gorgeous and I would love to buy similar ones from a local artist. Do you have a website? Kristen's Fit Everything In Small Cool Contest |
