A note of caution.
No matter how strong your ceiling support is, or the socket & pot connection, the weak point is insidethe socket, where the cord's wires are actually screwed in. The significant weight of my pot slowly (over months) bearing down resulted in the wire failing at the screws, culminating in the whole thing crashing down. Messy... not to mention dangerous if someone is sitting underneath, not to mention fire/electrical hazard!
How to get around this? Being sure to take the trouble to find a cord/socket assembly that's bombproof. Or utilizing something like picture-hanging wire (from pot to ceiling) to take the strain off the cord & socket. It's a beautiful concept (I painted my planter pot) but it's worth it to take an extra step & be safe!
