Can you share the name of the moving lady? I need to have a hutch and credenza delivered from the other side of the country and I would guess others are in the same situation. Thanks.

If it was my house, I would paint everything except the beams white and put in a wood floor that matches the beams. Good luck!

I don't think it's a very good idea to keep cash and a credit card in your car. Do you park in a secured garage every night? Even then, sounds very risky...

I live right next to the original store in Baltimore and let me just say that you can find a gift for ANYONE at this store. Don't tell my friends and relatives, but almost all their presents come from here.

I hate to post something negative, but I live in this neighborhood and have taken guests to view the wonder of 34th street several times this holiday season. This poorly written post was not even researched (the story of the street is on display at the first house for all to see). And to make matters worse, the awful pictures are not even from this year! It makes me sad to see such a half-ass blog entry.

After many many years of rock'n'roll on display in every room of the house, I recently relegated all things rock to the den. The CD and record collection live in there anyway and the small space makes the collection of framed concert posters, rock star promos, and various knick knacks really over-the-top. It's such a fun room with a real "wow" statement. And it allows the living and dining room to feel a bit more grown up. Oh getting older...

I also vote for curtains, a larger rug, mismatched tables, and colorful throw pillows.

Plus playing with the arrangement of the furniture. It may just be a personal pet-peeve, but I'm not a fan of placing a TV where you can't comfortably watch it from the furniture in the room. To me this just makes the TV stand out even more.

I would try the TV on the sofa wall, floating a couch opposite, and the chairs facing the fireplace. This would make the fireplace more of a focal point in the room. Or sofa against the current wall and small chairs floating in front of a TV credenza on opposite wall. This will get you some nice layering, maintain your conversational-style seating, and free up a wall for large scale art or some bookshelves. Just play with some different configurations and see what you like best.

Simple solutions: paint the wall a dark charcoal grey, center the tv, place a picture shelf above the tv (fill shelf with varying sized frames of artwork & photography), and move the coatrack into the corner away from the console.

i also have to wonder about the furniture layout overall though. it looks like it would be very difficult to comfortably watch tv in this room.

we had to post a sign in our kitchen window once. "if you can read this sign, then we can see you naked!" it was for our new neighbor who never bothered to hang a curtain or blinds in the bathroom. naked people and eggs don't mix. thankfully, it worked.

I have hundreds of records and use the Ikea Expedit bookcase. It is pretty much perfect for storing records. In fact almost everyone I know has a huge album collection, and with very few exceptions everyone uses the Ikea Expedit bookcase. (Even the vintage furniture collectors with no other Ikea in their house.)
