Last Christmas I had my kids contribute to the Shoe Box appeal, they each decorated a shoe box and filled it with toys, clothes, books and pencils for a child of a particular age and sex. They loved being able to choose things for another child. Our local daycare was collecting the boxes on behalf of the appeal, they are then sent to children around the world in need. For children of the ages three and 6, I think it was a good way of showing them the act of giving. It was not just money which they don't really understand at that age. Our local shopping mall Santa is the centres janitor during the year, every year at Christmas he takes on the roll of Santa and has been doing so for over a decade. He is a lovely man, with real white hair and beard, he always takes to the time to really talk to the kids and make them comfortable. He is wonderful and the kids love it. When I was 7 all I wanted was a Cabbage Patch doll, I got a faux one, that had bald patches when you untied her hair. I was bitterly disappointed and probably winged endlessly to my mum about it. A few decades later, spending Christmas with my family and own children, I opened a present from my Mum, it was that darn Cabbage Patch doll. I was wondering if any book lovers could help me with the first book I remember from my childhood. My memory is probably quite vague it was about a boy, who used a diving rod/stick to find water and took a balloon elephant ride to the moon? It would have probably been out in the mid 70s. Another thing I can suggest is have a good look at your type of furniture. I used to live under a friend who had her stereo on a glass topped table with metal legs. All I could hear downs stairs was the beat throbbing, it used to send be bat sh!t crazy at all hours of the day and night. What To Do When You Are the Noisy Upstairs Neighbor? Good Questions |
