If you have a cooler, I'd freeze juice instead of/in addition to ice, that way you can drink it when it is defrosted. hard boiled eggs would be okay for a day or two. hummus. sardines and crackers. tuna pouches? pretty much any fruit would be okay for 4 days if you bought it right before you left. nuts. dried fruit. crispy vegetables. i hope you can get off the train at some people and "re-fuel". I could see doing this for 2 days but I think things would get kind of grim by day 4.

I've made homemade Hostess Chocodiles and Sno-Balls and tons of "homemade take out" like eggrolls etc

So much fun!

Anyone else find it odd that the recipe is treating grappa & vodka as interchangable? Grappa is pretty distinctive tasting and I would think yield a very different result than the pretty neutral vodka.

We make some variation of the stuffing I grew up with. I call it
unstuffing
because we make balls and cook them in the pan with the turkey but not in the turkey.

I don't pack or sift anything. Maybe I am just lucky but all of my recipes turn out just fine.

This is so pretty! I don't like sweet things as main dishes/sides but I'd be tempted by this.

Also, I cook and bake nearly every day and don't restrict certain foods just to the holidays so that isn't a particular draw to this time of year.

Honestly, no. I like holiday food and have a faux Thanksgiving to experiment with recipes for my blog but I don't like the "holiday season" much at all. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if there was better weather? My lack of interest in most holiday activities + short days + lack of local fresh fruit/veg + cold weather makes this a rough time of year for me.

This year we booked a 2 week cruise leaving right after Thanksgiving. A great way to skip some of the hoopla and yucky weather.

Whenever I see fenugreek I am reminded of staying in my in-laws' house and finding a jar of it that dated back from before I was born! After I pointed it out, they revamped their spice collection.

I've had problems doing it in the slow cooker, some cans leak and some start to rust before it is ready. It depends on the brand. The can may also damage your slow cooker. So while it is possible, I would be very cautious. I didn't feel comfortable including a recipe for it in my cookbook because I had so many problems.

I wrote a whole cookbook of slow cooker recipes (300!) but I have to say, my favorite thing to make is pulled pork. http://www.lijit.com/search?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lijit.com%2Fusers%2Fcoconutlime&q=pulled%20pork&type=blog

I would try using your slow cooker. I made some balsamic glazed nuts in the slow cooker (lid off, lots of stirring) that came out really well without overcooking. I'd sprinkle them with oil then add the wasabi at the end of the cooking time.

It does seem silly for Trader Joe's. I know some people love that store but really, 90% of what they sell is prepared foods. I can make my own cookies and dinners, thank you!

Their few "whole" items are not unique and often over packaged. Some times they are cheaper than the local store but not by so much it makes sense to pay a delivery fee to get them.

Brittany-
I will post the homemade TV dinners recipe on my blog, probably some time next week.

We skipped the '90s because it was so recent and we had both seen so many movies from that decade. I think we'll have a '90s night after we work our way back through the remaining decades.

Note about the Coconut & Lime Balsamic Onion jam--I didn't and wouldn't use sweet onions in this jam. I made it with regular yellow onions. Sweet onions are just too sweet for this recipe.

How big are these onions? Using them every day and yet only going through one a week doesn't quite add up to me. We're only 2 people and I'd say we go through 5-7 onions on an average week and it isn't as though we are onion-crazed. I'd suggest just upping the amount of onion in whatever you are making now, it can't be much. Also, if you store them properly, they should last a couple of months--well into the time your CSA should be giving you something beyond onions.
