I really question what is considered "MCM"... Half of these truly fit that description.
And once again, you truly get what you pay for.

This is a great table if you're looking for an extension (or want to reap from their benefits without it being a priority). I repeat - you get what you pay for, so if this is the table you love, save and/or open a DWR card and benefit from 6-mo interest free payments. It will last you years and years...

Wish I could say the same for that CB2 thing (assuming it looked like quality)...

Oval Dining Table to Seat 8 Under $1000? Good Questions
1/21/13 9:49 PM

Love the coziness but the clutter gets to me -- especially in that back yard. While the yard looks like a curated junk yard, the living room is so warm, inviting and comfortable.

Regarding the animal hides and misconceptions...Did you know:
- some (read: quality) hides are byproducts of the meat industry? Glad to see they go to good (and *gasp* more sustainable) uses. If you get it from the right place, you buy free-range humanely cared for European hides.
- hides are very easy to care for and maintain? Sweep away crumbs, easily wipe away spills, pick up and shake out dust.

Hides are very naturally repelling of our dirty/clumsy ways...After all, how many stained cows do you see in nature?

I like these. I'd pair them, as-is, with a simple Saarinen Table (white).

How Can I Give These Vintage Chairs a Modern Update? Good Questions
11/16/12 11:23 PM

This is the perfect example of why one should not buy a knock-off: poor visual imitation, but more importantly, awful quality. No chair should buckle like that, and the fact that these do is disrespectful to the original design. I'm not sure what is more embarrassing: the horrid look of the chairs, or the fact that you own chairs, for function, that you are afraid will break or injure those who might wish to sit in them.
...Why?

Sounds like I'm not the only one who has a problem with the inflated sense of scale in the first photo (aside from the clutter)...not to mention the lack of function from these down-casting light fixtures. Yikes yikes yikes.

I've had mine for two weeks now and totally love it. I love the large screen size, speed, and overall ease of operation. Only cons are the heating problem and battery drainage -- things I can live with.

DIY Idea: Turn Wine Crates into a Nightstand Lark & Linen
8/3/12 11:15 AM

I'm in total agreement with FRANZMENDOZA. I wanted to second KATHIEC's explanation, until I read the schooling on how to phrase comments. I'm more for simplicity; get to the point in the least amount of words possible.

To humor the idea: I would never buy a knock-off Saarinen side table (out of appreciation of the design(er)), and I certainly would NEVER put a piece of literal junk (ie, printer) on a piece of art. And honestly, how often do you (or should you) actually print things?? I would try my hardest to conceal that eyesore. What *should* accompany said table: something decorative, a lamp, a living plant (ie orchid), or the such. It's a matter and measure of taste.

I also do not like the exposed light bulb/socket in the "good" desk lamp. Eye-sore, pun intended.

The Ikea-hacked desk looks very nice, I must say. I also like the cool colors as well.

Lots of great comments - Vikulyad and Yellow Coffee Cup to name a few. Great artwork (I would try to make sure they are centered at eye-level). Here's what I would do, assuming you wish to keep the big block painting as a focal point:

Walls: White.
They appear cream in color now. I'd do a bright(er) white.

Sofa:
I like the neutral currently. Would also consider black.

Floor:
I'm intrigued by one suggestion of red/orange for a rug, but that could really make the room quite busy. I would throw in a (white) cowhide. This would provide organic shapes and curves against the clean lines of the art and sofa and balance the white walls.

I'd like to know what you do and see the final product!

How To Decorate Around Great Inherited Paintings? Good Questions

Again:
A wonderful artful showcase in photography, but this house tour was a big let down. Would love to have seen direct before and after photos. A grand showcase of the house and its layout, spacial transitions is not displayed. I was shocked when I scrolled up and noticed that great blue accent wall, as I completely missed that in the house tour due SO many detail photos.

I would love to revisit this home with additional, larger photos.

I have had the hardest time finding a medium-large (at least 12" tall) planter pot for an indoor plant. What I want is something like this ( http://www.dwr.com/product/new-pot-50.do?sortby=ourPicks ) but preferably 1/3 of that price...

Any ideas??
