My kids (2 and 5) love to play in their room. Sometimes I go play with them, sometimes I don't and they disappear for hours, or they drag stuff out into other parts of the house, then put it away at bedtime. No biggie. I don't know when we decided kids have to have a bedroom AND a playroom, but not everyone lives in a giant house where children can have a suite of rooms.
Agreed though, too much white for a kids room. that's going to be showing dirty fingerprints in no time;)

Wow, this may be my favorite house tour of all time! Would almost make it worth living in Oklahoma:) (Just kidding, I'm in Texas and we are required by law to make that comment). What an amazing space!

I love this house! It looks like it is inhabited by real people with a real life budget who aren't designer-whores. It's so light-filled and you have lots of my favorite color: orange!

I am also especially envious of the score on the chairs: WOW! And that coffee table? Man, oh man that is amazing!

@Stephanie- we also just write thank you notes for people who sent the gifts and aren't there when they are opened. Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles who are there with us don't get written thank yous, although I think it would be nice to do them, it's just too overwhelming. My husband's family is rather large and very generous, and I can't always keep track of which gift came from which Aunt and Uncle! But we do thank them profusely in person and share photos of the kiddos enjoying the gifts.

This is good advice, but I'd add one more: be friends with your neighbors and let them know when you'll be out of town. Our neighbors all look out for each other, pick up mail for each other, etc. when we go out of town. Knowing who should be in your neighborhood and shouldn't, and calling the cops when something is suspicious, is the best way to keep yourself and your neighbors from being robbed.

I second the suggestion of hanging them under your kitchen cabinets by cup hooks. It's a great look and it will make you happy to see them everyday as you enter your kitchen! If there are too many, change them out on a regular basis.

I was really excited about this article. Then I read the list. I could do maybe 10% of these tasks in 20 minutes. No matter how fast I move. I will try to use it as a checklist, though. I have two kids and two pets and probably spend an hour a day cleaning and doing laundry, unfortunately. And I keep up with everything as well as I can. In fact, my biggest problem is that keeping up with the day to day stuff makes me hard to do the deeper clean stuff. I guess there's no magic formula for keeping my house clean without using lots of time:( Just will have to wait until I can afford a maid!

Hmm, this sounds like a good idea, but I'm not digging on it in these pictures. Too monochromatic perhaps?

This is gorgeous! How inspiring, I can't believe the budget you stayed on and it's so nice to see the kitchen being brought back to the period of the house.

I think it's beautiful, but there doesn't seem to be much room for lounging, other than that gorgeous sectional. That's nit-picky, though, it's a beautiful space!
