Having the right wine glass really does make a difference. The big test is to drink some wine out of a regular inexpensive wine glass and then take a sip out of a high end wine glass such as Riedel. You will notice the difference. I love my Riedel and I wouldn't drink wine out of anything else at home. Yes they are more expensive than other wine glasses, but they do make a difference and they'll last for years if you're careful with them.

Oh, and I have been thinking about painting my apartment. The landlord is OK with it as long as I paint it the original color when I move out. The apartment itself is very nice with lots of updates and decent light fixtures. Of course it has wall to wall beige carpets, but the laminate floors in the entry, kitchen and bathroom are very nice!

I've been to one of the Home Goods stores were I live in Oregon. I think they have a great and unique selection of lamps and and general decorative items. I noticed that some of the prices on items were the same or more than at other retailers though. Some areas of the store was very low in inventory so not much to choose from such as the art area. I may have been in on the wrong day though!

I'm almost 50 and I've lived in 32 places since birth! Only 7 of those places I would call home including the rental I live in now. I've owned 3 of the 32 places and I don't consider any of those places homes, even though I lived in one of them for 5 years. The place I live in now is home because I have it exactly the way I want, I love the apartment, the neighborhood and the city. I'm also in a good place in my career and overall I'm happy.

I love my tongs, my potholders and my paring knife! Peelers are good too. I have a regular peeler and a soft skin peeler. Don't forget the pyrex baking dishes. I have 2 sizes and I use them a lot!

My perfect roommates were during my Jr and senior years of college. I moved into a very old house with three other guys and it worked out perfect over the 2.5 years I lived there. The house wasn't fancy, but it met our basic needs. The house was owned by one of the guys mom, so he was sort of our landlord, but it all worked out. We had house meetings and everyone pulled his weight. One of the best times in my life.

I'm a neat freak but I rarely make my bed. Only when I'm having company!

I work in a grocery store and I always buy boxes when I move (home depot has them for cheap). The boxes in grocery stores get put in a baler as they are emptied and the stores get paid for the bale. I also like boxes that are the same size when buying them They are easier to stack and move. I too have stories of helping friends move that weren't packed. I'm done with that. I hire movers whenever I move. It's not that expensive if it's a local move.

The article and the comments were very interesting to me. I'm not young (49), but I have owned a manufactured home, a stick built home and a condo over the years. I'm in the service industry so I don't make a ton of money. I'm currently renting and I love it. I live close to work in a very upscale neighborhood. I could never afford to buy a house in my neighborhood, but I can rent a very nice apartment for a decent price. I don't know if I'll every buy another place, but I'm very happy where I'm at now in my life.

I once helped some friends move and when I got to their house they hadn't even started packing! It was a nightmare.

I'm past that age (late 40's) where you ask your friends to help you move. I've moved a lot and the best way is to hire movers. It's not that expensive for local moves. I usually move the small items myself and have the movers move the furniture and other larger items.

I've been horrified by some of the comments. Some of the comments remind me of my local paper. I admit I usually tip a dollar a drink and sometimes more, but I also tip for bottled water when I'm at a club. I also sometimes tip even more if the bartender is extra nice and the drinks are extra good.

I don't think we should judge others on their style. I consider myself a minimalist and I have been given a hard time for not having a enough stuff in my apartment. I buy and decorate with what I like. It's no ones business how I decorate my place and it's not my business or anyone else's business on how anyone else chooses to decorate their place.
