The rug from the 'before' living room area would do a whole lot to brighten/ warm up the 'after'. The white rag rug is ok, but IMHO, its a bit too clean, impersonal.

This would be so terrific for a children's party. I can see using their old drawings, bunches of crayons, beads and blocks, candy etc. Thanks!!

I'm a little sceptical of these laws given that so many re-usable bags (especially those sold by supermarkets) contain lead and other leachable chemicals. A lot of branded bags really cant be washed, as well, and can often contain hazardous food borne contaminants after they've been used for a while.
I think the real answer is to go back to old fashioned paper bags or scrap cloth bags.

Love the counter and backsplash in the kitchen (less wild about the black cabinets). The inhabitants have done a great job of 'editing' to keep the space functional.

If its comfortable, go for it! I am the proud owner of the ugliest sofa in the universe (birds in flight and fruit on polished cotton!) that is incredibly comfortable.
I paid $75 for the sofa and another $200 for canvas ticking to make a slipcover and $50 for pillows. With about 10 hours of labor, I had the most beautiful, comfortable sofa. I sleep on it all the time and its the center of our home.
The canvas I chose is washable and I will truly mourn when it is time to replace this sofa.

For starters, just to be protective of your health. Spray the area once a day with a solution of 10% bleach. This will keep any mold/ mildew in check until it gets fixed.
Is it getting wetter each time you use the shower? Then you have a leak. Which you ought to ask your landlord to repair ASAP.
Its possible a leak was fixed and the paint job after was done without letting the wall dry properly? If so make sure the wall is dry (if you have to foregoe a shower for a few days) before repainting again.
Communication is key here. Best of luck!
