My objection is that this is a rip-off of Jonathan Adler's earlier work; canisters with suggestive labels. Not creative "artist", just trying to ride someone else's wave.

for Elizabeth- that gorgeous plant is a "pencil cactus", a succulent in the Euphorbia family like poinsettias and spurge. Give it lots of light!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and, am so in love with every decision and detail in such a lovely home!

Also consider studio potters' work if you are intrigued by texture and pattern!
Your local craft stores, art fairs, etc., are great places to look for wares that cannot be duplicated in factory production.
Heath Ceramics is a great example of a bridge between industrial design and the handmade, but don't overlook individual artists' work!

I like "Dr. Oettker". The company also makes things like cake mixes in addition to bakeware. Also, of course, I often find good brands in thrift stores (including Dr. O.).

Sounds like a lovely combo- especially adding the cardamom!
Lately I've been adding a protein powder to smoothies and even hot cereal. Trader Joe's makes a good one- "Aria" is whey-based with 80 calories and 14 grams of protein per serving.

Very lovely! Thank you so much for the detailed photos of how things fold. Cartouche is so charming, a great spokesmodel for the before-and-after version!

Thanks so much for the example of a beautiful display of handmade pottery in #1. Useable, beautiful and durable for every day, every meal. Support your local (and studios from afar) potters!

Delightful bungalow! Really enjoyed the small and whimsical quotes of forties style- the tiny bird salt&peppers, bird-motif pillows & bath mat. Just enough for a loving wink, not a heavy historical hand. Charmingly appropriate bathroom wallpaper and marble work!

Here's a nice combo of bamboo with clear plastic sides:

www.storables.com In bath items: "formbu collection" includes a tank top tray, 16"x6", for 12.95.

I really like mine, perfect fit, no wobblies....I did coat the bamboo with an extra bit of clear finish, even though it says it is waterproof....

still harrumphing...but consider the difference between nachos made with velveeta and really good Mexican food.
Even a cheap street food vendor is going to do something more interesting than Taco Bell, so it isn't cost that dictates art, but it is your own level of interest that sets the bar. For a completely different analogy, look for windows, not mirrors.

and unfortunately, some art schools have given in to "no child left behind" and do not train students sufficiently to engage in critical thinking. Harrumph.

gee this shows a depressing lack of understanding the potential power of art. Keep in mind that ideas that we find mildly entertaining and decorative were initially critiquing and analyzing the culture that the artists were immersed in.
I am really offended by the assumption that Ed Ruscha and a "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster have very much in common.

Jamina1- Think of it more like cornmeal mush! But savory, not with syrup on top! yummmmy! Sometimes I cheat and get the tube shaped package. Pre-cooked, all it needs is slicing and heating.

Bob's Red Mill, mentioned above, makes several different hot cereal mixes with oats: 7 grain, 8 grain, 10 grain, etc.
A bit off topic, but I also really like to add a serving of powdered soy-based protein supplement when the cereal is almost done. "Aria" from Trader Joe's really helps the cereal stick to one's ribs.

Just made a panini sandwich using the 10" ridged skillet (sometimes it's called a grill pan, the ridges are inside on the bottom). Lay the sandwich in the lightly oiled pan and place another heated skillet on top to weigh it down, cook on medium heat until the first side has toasted grill marks, then rearrange and grill the other side. Also perfect for grilling sliced marinated portobello mushrooms- for said panini!

For more protein, you might like to add a powdered supplement to the blender batch. Most grocery stores have them, my fave is "Aria" at Trader Joe's. Ooops- the label says for women, but can't imagine anything untoward happening-!
