this is total perfection, you should be SO proud. i just moved in with my boyfriend and we're starting from scratch furniture-wise (we also happen to be on a barely-there budget) so it's going to be a challenge to make our place everything we want it to be. congrats! :)

thank you thank you thank you! this post came literally right on time for me - my parents are getting my wife & me a new bed for our first anniversary and we were heading to ikea to find something reasonably priced. as it turns out, there is an EQ3 gallery in the jordan's furniture located right next to aforementioned ikea! we will definitely be looking into their beds.

thank you all so much for the help - i'm going to look into all of the options suggested (although i think i'd feel fantastic supporting that prison program and the pricing is difficult to turn down - thanks siobhan!). the thing i'm worried about is whether or not this sofa technically counts as a sleeper sofa (the article states that the prison program won't accept them).

bepsf - thanks for helping me identify this thing! i am going to try to research it more, i know nothing about it... only that it holds a world of potential.

we have yet to decide what color/pattern/fabric we're going to use... any thoughts?

hi jeanine! thank you for trying to resolve the issue :) i very much enjoy the themed scavenger posts - however (and this is just my humble opinion!) i think that since they are only every other week at this point, perhaps covering a more broad spectrum of styles would cater to more boston readers. maybe every few weeks we could have a themed post? or if/when our scavenger posts become more frequent the theme posts would be fantastic! i love them either way, just thinking in terms of logistics.

i don't know about everyone else, but the kind of stuff i look for on craigslist really does range from small odds & ends like kitschy statues and tin-type photos to large pieces of furniture - even if it means upgrading something i may already have. (speaking of which - i have a good question about reupholstery companies in boston - where should i email it to?)

thanks again, jeanine! keep up the great work :)

So I have one of these guys in my living room and have a total love/hate relationship with the thing.

If you're looking for comfort, this is NOT a couch for you. If you're taller than 4'10" and looking for a couch you can lounge on, this is NOT the couch for you. If you have a lot of guests and people are going to be sitting on it a lot, it really won't hold its shape too well and this is NOT the couch for you.

On the contrary, if you're looking for a little sofa you can sit and read or do your homework on, or as occassional seating, this is definitely the couch for you. For the price, it's gorgeous (although I would totally recommend buying it from Target - the price is way more reasonable & it is literally the EXACT same couch) and not totally uncomfortable. I guess it just depends on your taste. I totally thought it was going to be big enough to seat three people... it really only seats two. But we've gotten a ton of compliments on it and we really love the way it looks.

Essentially, it's not a good investment piece. However - if you can afford to replace it in a few years/keep the usage to a minimum, the couch will serve you well.

this whole naming-a-dead-tiger-that-hangs-on-your-wall thing aside, this apartment reminds me of a less sophisticated version of my aunt estelle's apartment in greenwich, ct. when i would visit there as a child i would see a few bizarre, borderline creepy pieces of furniture and art or kitschy porcelain figurines that i wanted to kidnap and take home with me. aside from those few things, the place was dripping with old lady and totally unappealing.

i have the legs attached to a dark wood table top which i'm pretty sure did not come from ikea (got the whole package free off of craigslist) - and i use it as my work space for my in-home tattoo studio. i love it, i think it's simple and sleek looking. my set-up is sturdy, but i'm not using it for dining so i'm not sure. in terms of the height, i think it would work well. hell, i just like the look of the thing.

no more making my wife bring my clothes into work to steam them for me? she'd be eternally grateful.

oh my word, we need a new vacuum (actually - a vacuum period). WAY out of our price range for something like this, but it would be a highly appreciated luxury!

i actually can't believe they featured the antoinette fainting sofa... i have one and it's basically the cheapest piece of furniture i've ever owned.

my wife and i put the antoinette fainting sofa in apple green on our wedding registry. a few of the women i worked with at the time all pitched in and bought it for us, which was extremely exciting... until we got it home and opened the box. the fabric is literally velcro'd to the back of the couch. i wouldn't trust urban outfitters furniture as far as i could throw it and would advise against purchasing any. at least with ikea furniture the price matches the quality and durability of the piece.

my roommates are moving out in two weeks - and we are so unprepared! we're very excited to finally use the furniture (okay, one piece of furniture) and housewares we received as gifts for our wedding, but surfing the craigslist free section will only take us so far. because we have to pay off my wife's tuition for her fall semester of school by july, we have little to no money to spend on the luxuries we dream of furnishing our soon-to-be empty apartment with! this rug would be the most fabulous (and the first!) addition to our living room.
