Also keep in mind that lantana is poisonous. The berries are especially poisonous, but the leaves can cause skin irritation. If you have kids or animals, this is not a good plant choice.

In my climate (western OR) chives should get an even higher value because they overwinter. I got two chive plants five years ago and have not had to buy chives since then.

This year I got tarragon plants hoping to avoid having to buy the expensive little plastic containers of tarragon.

It isn't exactly next door, but Portland OR's Metro sells recycled latex paint. I used some to paint my daughter's backyard playhouse, and it has held up very well. Might be worth the trip if you were getting a lot of it.

My 4 year old daughter (who has a regular bed in her room) prefers to sleep in her closet, so we made her a small bed with a papasan chair mattress and decorated the space with glow in the dark stars, a small lamp on a shelf and scarves for a tent-like feeling. She loves it.

I showed her this post and she immediately asked, "Can WE do that?"

I buy from the bulk bins for things like oatmeal, grains, nuts. I get staples from Costco (including toilet paper, cheese and almond butter).

I've got three pounds of green tomatoes, plus a pile of tomatillos, just waiting for attention. I found an enchilada recipe that calls for a pound of green tomatoes or tomatillos, but that still leaves a lot left over! They'll likely go into chile, but maybe pickling is the answer. Then again, will I like pickled green tomatoes better than I like fresh ones?

I'm with FiatLex, I don't get the griping. What's the point of an article about NW 23rd or NE Alberta? I was thrilled to see this article highlight a lot of the cool stuff along a pretty long stretch of Division. And I am glad when AT passes on NW stuff, Portland and otherwise.

When I ate breakfast there last month I noticed that composting the plates along with food scraps happens at the Ferry Building. I bought those plates for a recent block party and then gathered a bunch up and tossed them into my compost bin. I guess I will know in a few months how that turned out.

A month ago I promised my sister and her husband I would make them a duvet cover for their new big down comforter. Still have not done that, but need to.

I also promised her a skirt, have fabric to make pjs for my daughter and two friends, and a couple of outfit reworkings that I want to do for myself.
