Very pretty, but please note mountain laurel is very poisonous. As a child I lost a pet goat to wild mountain laurel in New England. Why Grow That, When You Can Grow This? The Gardenist |

Green olives and lebaneh (drained yoghurt) on pita bread - yes the kids teased me, but it was so good. Okay, want one now. Just Like Mom's: What Sandwiches Did You Grow Up With? |

Modern Times was the first movie I ever saw when I was 5 and remains a favorite. My father and I saw it over and over at Theatre 80 or when the Film Forum was doing a retrospective. We saw The Kid once and both cried and we swore never to see it again and while I don't remember it, I know we never did see it again. City Lights was another favorite. Thanks for bringing back the memories and reminding me to plan to do this when our daughter is older. (as for screen time, I have never had a television in the house and don't want one). In a household without much processed food, store-bought childhood special treats were Jello pudding pops, Dannon frozen yoghurt pops with a chocolate shell, carob ice cream (what ever happened to carob?). Campbell's tomato soup with Saltines (ate lots of this when I was pregnant). And a fish stick sandwich (on packaged soft white bread! - very exciting for me as a child) from the fish store when we were out shopping. When I was sick, cinnamon toast and tea brought up to bed on a round purple tray (yes, cinnamony buttery sugar and toast crumbs in bed). I took out the 30 year old roller blackout shades that were in our apartment when we bought it because they smelled strongly of vinyl. Anyone know if any of these don't off-gas, or have an idea where to get eco friendly ones that don't cost the earth? - no pun intended. Sleep Soundly with Blackout Roller Shades |
