Affordable? Really?!?

10 Affordable, Space-Saving Wall-Mounted Desks

Are you really set on keeping those tan colored walls? I think those are the problem, more than your shade of gray. If you want yellow and grey, the yellow needs to be bright! The gray might need to be a tiny bit darker, but I'd start with the yellow and see how it goes from there. Check out the pallete in these pics:

Wes & Kayla should be the only AT bloggers that use "we" instead of the usual "I" unless other bloggers team up too.

Apartment Therapy Boston | Look! Built in Shoe Storage (Or Is It?)

If anyone here starts an organization that requests donations and coordinates pick-up and distribution from companies that would otherwise destroy (safe, non-perishable) items to good causes like Habitat For Humanity or Dress For Success, I'd be willing to help.

Sounds like a lawyer would be needed too though.

I don't like any of those 4, and they look WAY too uncomfortable for the money. My barstools were $80 each, minus a 20% off Bed Bath & Beyond coupon for each...AND...I can actually sit in them!

Considering that your space is 100"W x 8.5"D x 39"H, and that you currently have shoes there, I would suggest Ikea's Trones shoe storage. They are only 7.25"D, so they wouldn't block that doorway on the right. I have a set, and they fit a lot more than just shoes! You can put 2 stacks of magazines or files into one unit, toys, purses, throw blankets, etc.

You could fit up to 10 (2 down, 5 across) in that space, with a ledge on top of 100" x 8.5" x 8" to spare! On that ledge, you can put CDs, DVDs and video games, or it can be a landing strip. You could put any number 10 or less there too of course if you prefer the floating look instead of maximizing the space. I think closed storage would be the way to go in a space that shallow.

I think the geometric arrangement looks more modern too

Who would buy a $5000 pile of plastic crap that's made to look like fruitcake?

Obviously not, but what's the point of 8 sides if you can only sit at 4 of them? While technically an octagon, for practical purposes it's basically a square with the corners clipped. Not really cool enough to use as a defense with mynyapt.

I agree w/ Palmetto, chalk isn't flirty, it's messy, scratches when you write and makes awful sounds! I like whiteboards much better.

Our tiny apartment has a bar, but lately I've been wanting a table anyway. It seats two, which is sufficient for Alex and me, but it's not at all romantic! I miss being able to look across a candlelit table and gaze into the eyes of my honey. I'm thinking of putting a 2x4 Expedit under the bar (it's exactly the right size, within 2 inches!) and getting a Docksta and some Panton chairs. I just need more money!

The one thing I like about my bar:
I can pull hot toast out of the toaster while I'm seated. (The layout is similar to the first picture, our toaster is under where they have their microwave) I heart toast!

Apartment Therapy San Francisco | How To: Have a Boutique Hotel-Feel Bedroom
11/6/08 3:04 AM

My rule:
- No smoking inside or within 20 feet of the door and windows.

Not rules, but common courtesy:
- As a good hostess, I will always offer you whatever I have on hand to drink and munch on. Don't rumage through my cupboards and fridge and ask "hey, are you gonna eat this?"
- Opening every door, closet, cabinet and drawer or reading mail (unless it's a magazine or catalog) is just rude.
- If you're making a stinky, please use the exhaust fan, a courtesy flush, and/or air freshener. This isn't a truck stop, people live here.
- If a bedroom door is closed, respect it's privacy.

The shoe thing is understandable in situations of bad weather and culture. If you're anal about your carpet, maybe you should get a darker color, or not have guests. That being said, if you MUST ask guest to remove shoes (for whatever reason), you should keep a basket of (new, clean) socks in various sizes near your shoe removal area. Asking guests to remove shoes can be inconvenient and intrusive. Runs in stockings are a major annoyance, and 1 person with smelly feel can ruin the mood for EVERYONE in the house.

It's on my list...as soon as I get rid of the boxes in my dining area. I would totally get the Saarinen if I had a few thou to spare...but I don't...so I won't.
