Looks amazing! Curious where you found the black lampshades and how they're lined?

If you actually have the Tillary sofa pictured in the post, that sofa is just about the same size as a twin mattress. If you don't want to pay for a custom slipcover, you may be able to find some nice looking twin fitted sheets. You could then either make (or have someone make) just a cover for the back cushions using the same sheet fabric.

For a more romantic look, you may want to reposition the furniture so that the TV isn't the first thing you see as you come through the door. Maybe center the bed in front of the three windows (very dramatic with the drapes closed). Use the console table as a second nightstand and put the cream lamp on top. and move the TV/seating area to the nook. A small area rug with some texture would be nice too.
Or you could center the bed on the wall where you have the console table, again using that as a second nightstand. Move the white chairs to the nook with the smaller table between them. The TV can go across from the bed--perhaps wall-mounted.

Having had this problem in previous cookie cutter apartments, I bought an electric fireplace for our living room. I think part of the key to making it work (whether you get a gel or electric fireplace) is to buy one that doesn't scream "faux fireplace." Ours is the "Heritage Leaf Burnished Walnut" fireplace by Symphony Fireplaces. We bought it at a place in NYC that's now out of business, but it's available online too. In person, the fireplace is substantial and really looks like it's part of the apartment. It also gives off heat, which is a nice feature.

I think you have all of the right elements in your apartment (though I may be biased since I have those same bedside lamps). Like others have suggested, all you have to do now is personalize your space and maybe add some texture. I agree that window panels would look great on your windows.

A few other things I'd recommend:
- bedroom: a colorful throw blanket at the end of the bed, maybe in blue to tie it in to the other areas of the apartment.

- living room: I agree that art work over the couch would be great. In terms of quick solutions since your friend is visiting soon, I've personally ordered same-day 8x10s from Walgreens and put them in PB frames (with matting) I bought on sale. You could also take the mirror from your dining area and hang it horizontally behind the couch.

An area rug in the living room would be a nice addition, though I think you'll need something larger than a 3x5. Since your couch looks big, pairing it with a small rug might not work visually. Something like a 5x8, with part of the rug under the couch, could work.

Two small, patterned ottomans under the window is another idea. It can function as extra seating but also provide a footrest for when you're sitting on the couch.

Last idea: a table lamp on the side table in the living room.

Because of the way our apartment is set up, the only spot for a litter box was in the foyer. We decided to go with the "litter box as furniture" idea and ordered one from this site: http://www.catlitterfurniture.com/site/356568/ It was the best decision. Our litter box, which we ordered in a dark ebony stain, actually looks like an end table. Everyone is shocked to learn that it's a litter box. Clean-up is easy too since the doors on the front of the litter box swing open. I'd definitely recommend it and the price wasn't bad either.

In my livingroom, so it could cover the oh-so-glamorous NYC square tiles that dominate the apartment. I could actually enjoy sitting on the floor again.
