It shouldn't be the tacky sort of shiny brass like in late 80s light fittings. I've seen some lovely velvety brushed brass examples coming round the bend that look amazing set against earthy greys. It will definitely have a classy twist on it.

Oh god, you know that horrible/awesome faux wood paneling you find in older mobile homes? That's coming back too. And the next Pantone selection will be a dusty rose or soft coral. *crosses fingers*

A bigger intersection of minimalist/modern and DIY/vintage/eclectic. Like very edited collections of thrift shop knick knacks grouped in surprising ways. Lots more upcycling and reuse but done in very clean and professional looking ways. Exotic inspiration but in the form of plants and landscapes rather than animal skins and prints. Antique brass after the brushed brass phase. Restoration Hardware chic.

All the spices I use a lot of (black peppercorn, paprika, cumin) are in small reused Douwe Egbert coffee jars at the back of the pantry, unlabeled. All the regular spices, of which there are probably 25, are in square Tesco spice jars that I turn label in so all I see are unlabeled glass jars full of spices, in alphabetical order so I can find what I need without having to sniff them (I still do just to ensure cinnamon and corriander didn't accidentally get swapped). Uniform, pretty, and if I need to add a new spice I can get it with my usual grocery shop. I have open shelving so it has to be uniform.

Peter Cushing lives in Whitstable. I have seen him on his bicycle. I have seen him buying vegetables.

"But I have to turn off my phone for TEN WHOLE MINUTES?! AND MY KINDLE???" Whole lotta First World Problems in here. Maybe you should use those few minutes of being unplugged to reflect on how lucky you are to own an electronic device and can afford to be F###ING FLYING.

2 adults in a 715 sq ft rented terrace in the UK, and we only really use the front 140 sq ft bedroom as a laundry room. Feels absolutely massive compared to the 250ish studio I used to rent in Chicago a couple years ago (for about the same price).

I buy many grocery items for the jars they come in. Lots of people drink instant coffee here in England and I switched from filter when I moved here. I buy Douwe Egberts coffee now because the coffee's pretty good and it comes in two sizes of matching apothecary style jars that I reuse for storing dry foodstuffs. Classico pasta sauces come in lovely embossed jars with sturdy lids that are great for taking soup to work. I also bought all my spices in one go so the jars would match and now I just refill them. If I need new spices, I'm careful to buy the same kind. There are plenty of companies that use nice packaging, why throw it away and spend extra money on purpose-built food storage containers?

We moved into an end terrace with no stove or oven, only the combination microwave we've always had (but until October, have only used as a microwave). We were going to replace it, but gradually learned to live without and we're now loving the space it gives us in our tiny kitchen. So far, the only thing we haven't figured out how to make are pancakes (which is a sad thing on pancake day!)

Your friends are not requesting cocktails because of your bar cart, love (though it is adorable), they're asking because that bar reads like a who's who of alcoholic greatness. I'll have a Hendrick's and tonic with a slice of cucumber please!

I moved from Chicago to the UK with a steamer trunk to cart my household goods and now it's our coffee table (and handy storage for all my Christmas decorations).

My husband and I encountered the same issue when we moved into our current apartment, where the fridge was blocking 2 cabinets, the window, much counter space, and the drainage area of the sink. We moved it into the hallway and placed some baskets on top (it's short; about chest height) and now it's the perfect landing strip and equidistant between the kitchen and living room (great for beer stor...*ahem* entertaining).

My apartment is filled with these things. There's the loon carved out of some kind of bison horn, the bookends that look like a lounging dog cut in two, the "touchdown buddha" that guards my bathroom sink, one of those turtle shaped lamps with the glass shell that lights up, a battered wire birdcage rescued from the dumpster at my old apartment, a sculpture of a giant gun my fiance made from plastic bottles, a ceramic fish, swords, mismatched antique teacups, a little wunderkammer filled with shells and other seaside objects... People that come over are endlessly examining all these little curios. I love how kitschy little objects bring back the awe and enthusiasm people lose when they grow up and create "adult" living spaces.

As much as I love to look at ascetic rooms with clean, modern furnishings, I could never live in one.
