As a life long frequent traveller, both for business and pleasure. I've always found that the best way to enjoy yourself abroad is 100% to remove that self inflicted pressure to "do everything", check it off the list. For me, what I have tons of while on vacation is time, so I try to remind myself of that, I just roam around knowing there is no constaint on my lifestyle at that very moment. This is how I've discovered hidden jewels and been able to take it all in, absorbing the specialness of being in a foreign city, sipping a glass of wine on the square, enjoying some regional streetfood, whatever! I try not to rely so heavily on maps, and I find in one or two days, I can navigate a city and it's transport with ease. The most memorable experiences I've had are not the ones in ridiculous Michelin rated restaurants (but those are good too), but the impromptu moments, like looking out of my terrace across from la pedrera in Barcelona, enjoying the champagne I bought around the corner and eating some jamon, while torrential downpour threatens to put a wrench in my plans. 5 Things Paris Taught Me About Travel |

I had a huge realization after a trip to the West Coast recently. While I love the idea of "Eat Fresh, Local", blah, blah, blah. For many of those in-between New York & California or even in "the burbs", the options for us to do so, are just not existent in such an available way. After visiting a friend in San Fran recently and experiencing a highly elevated shopping experience there- feelings of "THIS PRODUCE IS AMAZING! THESE HEIRLOOM TOMATOES ARE UNBELIEVABLE", I realized that my own shopping experience and that of many other Americans is saddly inferior. I would love to eat gigantic fresh strawberries that just came from the farm or beautiful celery root or bi-color heirloom tomatoes, but that stuff is just not available to me. I incorporate as many fresh produce items into my diet as I can, but I know that it was likely shipped from South America two weeks ago. I'm so conflicted in regards to registries. I've always found the process oddly cold and impersonal. I know the couple obviously selects the items for their registry, but I always feel strange gifting, say a $90 DISH or one set of cuttlery?? For this reason, I've always gifted cash, at every wedding I've gone to. I got married back in September and didn't do a registry at all- we're grown ass adults, well into our thirties that pretty much owned all of the niceties already (KitchenAid Mixer, for example). My wedding was small and included close friends- the few gifts that we received were lovely and personal- very much a reflection of who they were, but gifted to us. We didn't get any weird salt & pepper shakers, lol. Why I Love Wedding Registries (But Still Sometimes Go Rogue) |

I don't switch, but I like this idea as I'm a pretty fragrance conscious type of gal- specific scents always seem to set off specific memories. Plus the idea of a little holiday in your kitchen sink, WHY NOT? Holiday Dish Soap Scents: 4 Favorites |

I was at a bar a few weeks ago joining some friends who appeared to be drinking a clear beverage that obviously wasn't beer. It was pear cider and I quickly ordered one up for myself. DELICIOUS. I put three more back & finally decide to look at the nutrition info, I turn the bottle around and was horrified to see that each beer was about 340 calories. I just consumed OVER 1300 calories in one sitting. I experienced an immediate wash of guilt and went running the next day. Put the Beer Aside: Crispin Hard Apple Cider |

Honestly, I found the Dogfish kind of meh, it left me wanting a bit more spice to the flavor. I preferred the Southern Tier and also Bluepoint makes a nice Pumpkin Ale. Spooky Brews: 5 Spicy-Sweet Pumpkin Ales for Fall |

I love New Orleans and agree that Commander's Palace IS a must for anyone making a trip there. Their food is outstanding. I'll take some of that gumbo ya-ya and whiskey barrel chicken right now, please! Plus 25 cent martinis during the week, what's not to love?
