@USBEK DE PERSE great question. it comes down to difference in drainage. I don't know about exact terminology but usually two types of pots: #1) that has drainage (hole + saucer, for example) #2) one without holes. #1 means you can put soil and plant directly in the pot. #2 means you must have a second layer in order to properly drain water.
