What a great space! What an awesome incorporation of your row of appliances. Just to add on, I just got the same LG washer/ dryer combo and love it. The luxury of in-unit laundry compensates for the longer cycles.

(PS- I love the typo about the peninsula: 72 feet!!!)

My laundromat here in Chicago offers nachos and popcorn, but the best part is a super duper sound system that they play all the time. It is like a dance club! Also free wifi and free dry.......

Even with these perks, I have to say that, due to a post here on AT, I just bought one of these LG ventless washer/dryer combos. It was a little pricy, but basically I pre-paid my laundromat dues for a year and a half. (And I now control the music.) Hooks up to the sink, plugs into the wall, and tucks right into the corner of my kitchen. I love it!

This is a beautiful kitchen..... but I have to be the one skeptic about so many open shelves. Won't everything get dusty? I have six open shelves in my Chicago kitchen, and I hope it's the air quality and not my cleaning skills, but every month, I need to wipe down every horizontal surface.

Is this just me and my kitchen or do other people get really dusty pots, plates, etc on their open shelves?

do you really think all of the people living at the border in the middle of the desert live there by choice? they live there to work in factories to produce AMERICAN goods that people here in the states buy in nice air-conditioned mega-stores for prices that they complain about.

on the same line of thinking, the people living in ramshackle dwellings don't live there because they re-purposing ripped tarps, re-claimed dented sheet metal, recycled cardboard. it is not a choice. go visit one of these communities, talk to the people, and really find out what kind of life they have, especially in a country where the government is totally corrupt. (not america BTW, though we are slowly declining- maybe these are for americans who can't afford their mortgage!)

I got a foam topper and hated it! My mattress was a pillow top already, and with the foam topper, when I slept on my stomach, my back arched the whole time and I woke up with terrible back aches every morning. I'd only recommend a topper if your current mattress is firm.

Now, I have a full foam bed and like it, but it took a little getting used to. It gets pretty warm in the summer, and I could definitely feel it holding heat in. This might be nice in the Chicago winter I am going to experience for the first time in a few months!! Overall, I'm very happy with the full mattress, and sleep great every night, waking up in the exact same position I fell asleep in.

I wasn't in my basement because all that live down there are spiders, but I did have an absolutely petrified black lab on my lap. I'm new to the Midwest, and last night was my introduction to tornado sirens. That was pretty surreal. I'm from California, where earthquakes don't come with warnings. Luckily my power stayed on, the trees stayed standing, and this morning life seemed back to normal:)

In case you live in Chicago, here is a tip that I just learned:

They do not sell any spray paint in city limits. Don't look silly like I did and ask at Home Depot where the spray paint is.

I wish I had thought to stick my iMac mini remote to the side of my computer like the sparse desk pic. I just moved and don't know where mine is. Tiny stuff has a way of disappearing......

The under-the-desk purse holder is brilliant, too. Now if only more bars and restaurants had those.
