I had the same problem and was never able to come up with a solution. Squeegeeing the walls after you shower would probably help keep the moisture down, there, but all the mildew that we got was on the ceilings and short of toweling down the ceiling after every shower, I can't really think of anything you could possibly do. Others have suggested using fans and dehumidifiers to me in the past, but we didn't even have an outlet in the bathroom to plug one into!

I don't think DampRid will work, either. We bought some for exactly that purpose. I opened the box before I'd realized we'd bought the ones made for closets by accident, so I tried them out because our closets were a little musty. They sucked up water like crazy! At that rate, you'd probably need to replace a DampRid in the bathroom every three days, and they're not cheap.

KH, I am really curious where you live that tree stumps are so readily available. I live minutes from Seaside in a relatively wooded area and have not seen a single tree stump or useable piece of tree trunk on the side of the road for the taking since Sandy passed through.

"Referring to any religious practice or superstition—regardless of the faith and how bizarre it may seem—as "folk-magic" is pretty ignorant."

@Neal G, sorry if you find it offensive, but it's not ignorant. By definition, the terms "folk-magic" or "folk-religion" refer to religious customs which fall under the umbrella of an organized religion, but outside of official doctrine/practices. And that's exactly what this practice is. You are unlikely to see a non-Catholic doing this, but you will not see it endorsed (and may even see it condemned) by official Catholic doctrine.

Anyway, are there alternative methods for non-Christians? ;)
Also, how does Eco-Joe work, if you're supposed to dig his statue up and honor it in your new home? Based on the description, I assume Eco-Joe decomposes.
