Go to architecture school and get your masters in 3 years. It will open a lot more doors than interiors.

Your furniture choices aren't large enough. They would look very tiny in those huge spaces.

You need visually heavy furniture that also won't fit in most houses.

Not a fan that the site promotes breaking building codes. It isn't only against the law, it is dangerous.

@DEBTHEREB, "Why not have a representative photo of your readers, who, according to the above letters, dress more often in BVDs and PJs. What's next, articles on weight loss? I only registered with AT within the last month and am already regretting it."

I agree. I commented in a post about the site's slide to beautiful people in their beautiful homes only to have the comment deleted. Hopefully you can read this before it is deleted.

@Julien_Montreal, I agree completely when it comes to Mid Century Design. The original furniture was intended to be mass produced and sold to the middle class. I have no guilt about buying a knock-off when manufacturers want to sell a simple chair for $1000.

I'd like to add, set long term goals and short term goals. With a renovation some projects are quick and some take months. Some are cheap and some are expensive.

If you have a clear idea of the category of the goal, it is easier to complete the goal.

"Doug played a primary role in his home's upgrade. He gave detailed directions to each of the skilled workers to achieve the look he sought. He designed the entire space, down to the location of each recessed light! He's happy with the results, as he should be. It's a stunning, sprawling, comfortable home."

Is he an architect? If not, it would be great if he gave credit to the architect. If this work was done without an architect I'm sure the city of New York might want to talk to Mr. Levine.

I agree that a brighter light will help. Have you considered going with a color that looks closer to natural light? I'm thinking a light yellow to psych you into feeling like you are in sunlight.

If there was one thing that is typical of classic furniture, I'd say that most were designed by an architect. Most architects are obsessed with their legacies and the need to build things that last and this tends to bring a longer view on style as opposed to an interior designer or decorator who designs for "now." "Now" amazingly becomes dated pretty quickly.

I'm a fan of Phillip Starke but I have to disagree about the Ghost Chair. Hold it up to any Eames chair and it tends to wilt. It's look seems temporary or disposable. Not a classic.

I've actually owned two in two different houses because I do love them. I'm disappointed that Modernica closed most of their showrooms because you really need to see one of these lights in person to appreciate the craftsmanship.

@phd2bpolisci, in my old place I had the same problem and used a hook centered on the table. Make sure that you have enough cord to give it some slack so that it looks like it was intentional and not a mistake.

On that note, are you sure the box is not in the right spot? The reason I ask is because in our new (very old) house the junction box is not centered on the room. I thought this was odd until I realized that the original designer/builder placed the box so that the table was off to the side to allow circulation through the dining room. I placed the table centered on the box and the room looks right.
