I like that the pictures gives me a good sense of how important your art and travels are to you. But I don't like that they don't give me a good sense of how anyone actually "lives" here. In five pictures there is a total of one seat, which looks really uncomfortable. It leaves me wondering what the couch and bed are like, since they are nowhere to be seen. Maybe you have embraced minimalism to the point that you don't own a couch or bed? That would be interesting. Is that a toilet paper roll on the kitchen sink?

Apparently, you don't even have to be able to spell words correctly to use Google Images, as long as other people don't spell correctly. (The correct spelling is "aerial.")

Hats off to you. You're absolutely right. Very well said. I did favorite your room, btw.

Far be it for me to express an opinion here, but I'm a little disappointed too. Up til the very final moments of the competition, it definitely looked as if I was actually going to get to vote for my favorite room ("Han's Luxury on a Budget"), which was both interesting and ingenious, but then dozens of people came out of the woodwork overnight to vote for what I thought of as the "Stepford Wives" room (I won't say which one that is).

I don't know if these were regular visitors to this site, but it seemed odd to me that so many of them suddenly decided to vote at the very last minute when the entry had been out for three weeks (poor Han's was only up for a few days). So yeah, it is a voting system, but it's not like the voting is always perfectly fair and unbiased like Fox News. But oh well, at least my second favorite (as well as my third) is still up there. I can't complain too much, I guess.

Consider why people even arrange anything in visually appealing ways though, for example in a storefront. The purpose is to draw attention toward the objects being displayed. I imagine this would also work for books. It might make it difficult for someone unfamiliar with your system to locate a specific title or author on their own, but then again it might tempt them to browse more due to your display of the books being pleasant to look at. There's no need to use the Dewey Decimal System in your own home, unless you really have that many books.

Uh, no, but it was very strongly implied that anyone who arranged books by color must be a semi-literate dimwit. Her creative writing degree gives her some credence as to the fact that she does not shun words, which some of you might assume if you were to view her bookshelf. Overreact much?

This room is so cozy and just a little bit quirky (not too much), so I voted for it. The half an eyeglasses pillow seems to evoke a sense of loneliness, but I like that. Then again, maybe I'm seeing too much meaning in it.

This room is so classy--exuberant yet restrained. Love the way the room hinges on a complementary color scheme without hitting people over the head with it.

Ok, here's the "WHOOSH"ing sound the sarcasm in my post is making as it goes by--

And here's where your head.is. I suppose you also think Stephen Colbert is a conservative. I was merely combining all the annoying posts on this entry into one post. I wasn't going to comment, but the posts finally got to me. I don't actually read the blog, and I didn't even vote for this room, but I don't have anything against it. It was only the thing above the crib that kept me from voting for it. As everyone else has said, the dark paint in the room gives it a sophisticated vibe. Thus, I feel like the thing above the crib should have been painted more neatly. It looks too rustic for this room. Just my own opinion.

However, the person who submitted is is obviously very talented and smart enough to mention her entry ahead of time on her blog. The problem I had in the comment you referred to was that that guy waited until the last few days to mention his entry on his blog. It was like he had wanted to prove he could win without asking people to vote, but when he realized that wasn't going to happen, he abandoned those principles and started begging for votes. He really did beg, and very passionately at that. However, this entrant did nothing of the sort. She has obviously done a really good job on that blog, so why not reap the rewards?

It was the comments in this section that annoyed me, but I get annoyed far too easily. I'm sure there's a simple psychological explanation as to why people get so defensive about other people whose blogs they read. It's probably because they've been allowed into that person's life, so they feel like they're the best of friends or something. I probably shouldn't have commented at all. Sorry if I offended anybody.

I am so sick of all this negativity. I swear, if one more person seems to insinuate that this entry might not have won without the support of its blog followers, I am going to have a cerebral aneurysm. Now, it's true that the people who win these contests are always the ones with popular blogs. However, correlation does not equal causation. Logic, people! Besides, anyone who has a popular blog must have it because their rooms are good enough to win contests on their own without being mentioned on their blog.

It's also true that I am a fanatical devotee of this blog; however, that is NOT why I and hundreds of other fanatical devotees voted for this room. I mean, if you can't immediately see why the inherent fabulousness of this room beats that of every other room by a landslide, you must have a problem with your eyes. I've never seen a nursery painted dark like this, not even elsewhere in this contest. This room has personality. And that thing above the bed--that's ART, people! She could have painted it neatly, but the fact that she didn't gives it a rustic charm. And if you'll notice, she didn't plaster Hello Kitty all over the room, like everyone else does. Or should I say Goodbye Kitty.

The blogger never did once beg for votes, so stop thinking that in your sordid little minds; it makes me want to vomit. (I do know exactly what you are thinking.) It's true that her blog says "Vote for Mabrey's room" on the side. That's more like telling, not begging. Not once did she say, "Pretty please with a cherry on top."

And safety concerns? Come on, what next? I think that anyone who says anything horrible about this room or its submitter, such as "This woman has a blog," is a jealous jerk and nothing less. How dare you say such things. Sour grapes, I say, sour grapes.

I don't know why anyone would complain about this space. I think the way they configured it is brilliant. I love this room so much. I think the color scheme is great, mostly neutrals with pops of color like that fantastic fridge. And to me, the scale of everything seems perfect. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff, but it's great stuff and it seems to be very well displayed and organized. It's not cluttered-looking at all. I have a very short attention span, but I'd never get bored in a place like this. I love that this place stimulates the senses and offers so much for one's eyes and imagination to savor.

A lot of these seem to be more directed toward the homeowners themselves rather than on the homes (i.e. I don't like slobs and people with bad taste). What is with all the relentless judging here lately anyhow? It's not like people are living their entire lives just for the benefit of other people they may come in contact with at some point, and if they were, everyone would find that annoying as well.

So much stuff, but I love it even more because of the stuff. I didn't know a home could be this spectacular and house so many treasures while never looking pretentious, only utterly cozy and homey. It makes me want to sit back and dream like that Asian woodcarving on the wall seems to be doing. But since I like to focus on the negative, why include a picture of a hutch in the corner filled with binders and junk? And I don't completely love that room with the square fireplace, square mirror, square armoires and what looks to be a square thing above one of the armoires. Also, those cats should go on a diet.

Never would have guessed this was a woman's home if I hadn't been told. Looks like a stylish bachelor pad, definitely enters the realm of "man cave." I hope it's not really as dark in there as it looks from the pictures.

Nobody's telling the girl not to read. Her books might be in the console, and I'm not sure the gown is 'proudly displayed.' Mostly it looks to me like a trunk just swallowed a little girl. I find that a little creepy, but in a whimsical Tim Burton way.

If this place seems cliche, it's probably because it was for a fictional client and not someone who could actually provide feedback as to what his tastes were. This had to be a place that would appeal to everyone. I think it's visually stunning and enjoy the feminine touches. As for the cowhide rug, well, if there were a picture of a guy wearing a leather jacket and eating a steak at the table I don't think anyone would be up in arms about it. I think that rug is just right for that room.

Although I feel like the backsplash and counter together are discordant (maybe just not my style), anything's better than the before, especially if 20 grand was spent. However, I don't see how the 'flow' was improved by moving the peninsula or whatever you call it to the other side. Before, there was a nice straight path from the adjoining room to the breakfast nook. Now, every time you want to go from the breakfast nook to the other room or vice versa, you have to cut around the peninsula. This could get annoying really fast, especially if several people are in the kitchen, taking things out of the fridge etc. And if you're a klutz like me or a rambunctious child, you'd run into the corner of that peninsula constantly. I just don't get it.

For a person like me who prefers ultramodern aesthetics, there are so many elements in this house that, for me, would automatically read "grandma" in virtually any other house, but somehow, amazingly, everything works here. It takes a very, very rare talent to achieve such a perfect balance between the traditional and the modern. Looking at the pictures, I was overcome with joy and wonder in spite of myself. This seems like a home where good things happen.
