This seems like basically the Montessori approach. In my experience, it doesn't work all that well. It's great for kids' self-esteem, but a lot comes down to whether the educational system prepares kids for real life, where they get tested and have to compete. If the Swedes are doing that, this could be a great approach. If they're doing the Montessori approach (no tests), then it's not going to work for a lot of kids down the road when they enter real life.

I agree with books. But do you really think anyone reads the books featured in any room on AT? I think books are a great decorative element if they're books you've actually read and have a connection to. My pet peeve is books that serve only a decorative function -- they exist only to make the owner look somehow smarter than s/he is. See FYNCT for good examples..

Please. If you don't like chains, don't go to U Village. Seattle is not hurting for handmade furniture. But those of us without $8k to spend on a single piece of furniture will cheer the addition of a store serving our demographic in a city that has almost nothing between IKEA and Roche Bobois or spendy artisan/handmade. And, for once, one that sells wood furniture with clean lines in a finish other than "espresso," C&B's favorite color.

Who are these people who can have white beds? Ah, the childless. Although even sans child, I'm pretty sure these linens would end up with my tea stains on them. Yeah, white linens aren't an aspiration for me; I live in the real world.

Only in Canada...IKEA being a main feature in a national design magazine. Alas, quality furniture isn't a strong suit here in the great white north. Having bought (and returned within 3 days) an IKEA bed before, I can say that based on their other beds, @eminchicago's remarks ring true. I can totally see this being made out of pressboard, since IKEA's other beds seem to be. I have a nice mattress (natural latex) -- no way I'd put it on IKEA. The cheap pressboard would collapse!

Yeah, #7 is definitely not small, unless maybe the bedroom is the entire apartment?

...because nothing says sexy like a Hudson's Bay blanket on a sloppy bed in a grad school apartment. Umm...actually, that wasn't sexy even when I was 22. And the room with the crib? Yeah, not so much. I'm wondering if they even noticed there was a crib in the picture?
