Jaggae - the bar stools are in the hall, but the hall is about 5' wide there, so we do not really have an issue with tripping over the stools. In fact, before we put the bar up, it felt oddly empty and like a huge waste of space!
BethAlexandra - we purchased the Edison bulbs from an antiques store here in town that has a specialty antique bulb booth (though you can purchase them online too). We then put them into some Ikea Hemma fixtures and ran the cords down to an outlet on the lower floor that is controlled by a switch next to the bar (go figure...), so we can just flip them on and off via the switch.

Not British, just Europhiles with a little bit of punk rock mixed in! Riefer - it's not too bad with the window in the bedroom, as we don't watch a lot of TV, that's not an issue, more of a problem for us is the coffee grinder in the morning! We ended up getting a manual grinder that is much quieter so it doesn't disturb the late sleeper.

Gael Gallery - the bikes aren't too bad. We are most often riding the fixie's around town, and my husband's lives in the garage, while mine is on the bottom of the ones we keep in the apartment. When we do get out for longer rides on the road bikes, my husband's is on the very top, and he is tall, so not too big of a deal.
Danielclt - The bar works great for just the two of us having dinner. If we have more guests, our desk rolls away from the wall and we have folding chairs hidden behind the curtains that we pull out. Since the computer is mounted to the wall, it's just a matter of moving the keyboard/mouse, throwing down a table cloth, et voila! The office becomes our dining room!

Muttnik - we do not have access to the area under the bedroom nor under the stairs. What you see in the floorplan is what we've got. Our snowboarding stuff is stashed under the bed, and the sewing stuff behind the sofa.
Madeittothemoon - We have two greyhounds (Rocco & Fergus) and and Italian greyhound (Stella). And yes, we are all very cozy!

Hi Everyone, Thank you for all your comments!
Everything in our apartment has mostly been DIY (including the plywood bar and bookshelf).
Lyonstill - we do rent the space, but (as you can see) our landlord is okay with us painting, so with a little drywall repair finesse, we are able to return the space to it's original state. In fact, our landlord loves our apartments (this is the second unit in this building for us) and enjoys showing them to potential renters before we move out.
If anyone is interested in checking out some of my other adventures in DIY and urban living, I write a blog at www.everyday-modern.com. Cheers and thanks for your votes!
