I love the idea of using the plastic drawers for gift storage. I was fortunate enough just once to have a place with a huge linen closet, so I was able to use half of it as a gift closet. Ever since moving from that place I've mourned the loss of my gift closet. The plastic drawers are great though, for the gifts as well as the wrapping supplies, cards, etc. Thanks for the suggestion! Ditto HeatherAB's comments on moleskin notebooks!!! I love them and have recently gotten myself the DC Cityguide version. It has a DC map and metro map inside, plus tabs for dining, events, contacts, etc, and plenty of blank pages too. It even has a pocket for stamps, business cards, etc. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Keeping It All Together |

Ditto erin79's comments on the Persian cucumbers. I can only find them at one particular vendor at my farmer's market but they're great. I'm going to miss them when the season is over (sigh). Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Cucumber Primer: Kirby, Gherkin, English, and More... |

When I had a tiny apartment in DC (the kitchen was the smaller than my current closet!) I hung one in the bathroom for towels & TP, and one two in the kitchen; one for fresh fruit and veggies and the other for towels, cloth napkins, candles, etc. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Alternative Storage Solution: Tiered Wire Hanging Basket |

Thanks for the instructions, this is our first year with a CSA and we've already been thinking we'd like to freeze some veggies to enjoy through the winter. Do other summer veggies (peas, beans, etc) handle this type of freezing well? Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | How To: Freeze Zucchini |

I used to dislike them and aren't fond of their scent. However since buying a house with a larger garden than I have time for, I've come to love them. They're pretty much maintenance free and drought tolerant, they hold up very well in our DC-area humidity even when I forget to water them. I've also noticed that when I plant them in containers around the patio they seem to help with mosquitos (maybe they don't like the scent either). We have a Doxie and a 6-month-old Pitt Bull, and either one can destroy a toy within 24 hours, with two exceptions; Kong toys and home-made sock toys. The Kongs are self-explanatory, available at most pet stores and pretty sturdy. We do have to keep an eye on them though because after some time they chew off small "crumbs" of Kong that they'll try to eat if we don't catch it and throw it away. The home-made sock toys started as a recycling joke and have turned out to be pretty sturdy. Take a standard rope toy and put it in an old sock, then put that sock in it's mate and tie a knot in the end. I did this with an old acrylic blend pair of my husband's dress socks and the dogs can't seem to chew through it. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Green Pet: RecycleBall and RecycleBone |

I haven't used them myself, but just read an interesting review on Olive's Smart Sack sets (read about it on today's posting at http://www.coolmompicks.com/). What I like about this brand is that a set of six of them pack together, so you have enough for a full load of groceries. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Good Questions: Good Reusable Grocery Bags? |

Yes my husband is a slob - and he did a decent job of hiding it from me for the time we were dating and then the six months we lived together before getting married! I swear he doesn't notice the trail of things he leaves behind him but he never puts anything away, throws anything away, etc ... and then gets angry when he can't find his things! Great idea! We're finishing our basement and I've been trying to decide what to do with the boring white wooden staircase (which never looks white due to scuff marks, etc). While I like how stencils look in photos, we're not really the stencil types. Now I know what we'll be doing with the steps. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Pantone Stairs at Tamotsu Yagi Design |

yeah we gave up on towel bars not too long ago (four boys, need I say more?) and went the hook route ... don't ask me why they could never remember to hang up their towels on bars but they do it for the hooks Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Children's Towel HooksSlinks: n. Hmmm, worst mess in my home ... Ok so when I was a young teenager my parents taught me how to cook. By the time I was in high school I was cooking dinner most nights and having it ready (or almost ready) by the time my folks got home. I loved to cook and on my mom's birthday thought I would surprise her by making her favorite - french onion soup - from scratch. I found a recipie in a cookbook, ran to the store and got the needed ingredients and got to work. In my eagerness I put oil in the pan to begin sauteing the onions and then began peeling and chopping them ... forgetting that I'd turned the burner on already. With my back to the stove I heard a strange and ominous "whoosh". I turned around to find the pan of oil (and the stove) on fire. Luckily I kept a level head, dug the fire extinguisher from the pantry (used speed-reading to check out the instructions) and put out the fire ... and then I spend the next FIVE HOURS cleaning up the tiny particulate dust from the fire extinguisher. Mind you we did not have a small kitchen but that stuff gets EVERYWHERE and pretty much EVERYTHING in the kitchen had to be cleaned (it even reached the top of the cabinets!). We live in an area with a lot of ground water and our sump pump runs year-round. My husband hooked up a rain barrel to our sump-pump discharge pipe and now I use that water for my plants. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Green @ Home: Use a Rain Barrel |
