I was extra-motivated at the beginning of the Cure - I framed and hung not one but seven pieces of art! So this was definitely a catch-up day for me to clean and straighten up, since I haven't been home much the last few days.

I love my foot duvets! They really are the best thing ever!

Living room is a piece of cake to clean, since I always keep it pretty free of clutter. I admit I was kind of hoping for a deep bathroom clean as part of the Cure, since that's what I really need the added push to do! I've also been surprised to see how hard it is to GIVE things away sometimes - Craigslist and Freecycle can be great, but I've had a few no-shows and reschedulers that are pretty frustrating.

There's a floor lamp in my living room that I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get rid of via Craigslist. I never use it because it's annoying to turn on and the light looks like an interrogation room lamp! Once I finally clear it out, I'll replace with a table lamp on a side table. Should be a big improvement.

I finally decided to cancel my Birchbox subscription for the same reason! I got a couple of nice mascaras and eyeliners, but I was amassing way too many cleansers and face creams. I already have my standby face products (Cetaphil and Kiehl's) so I cleaned out all the little sample bottles and made extra room in my medicine cabinet!

Day 16: Give Your Bathroom & Medicine Cabinets a CleanoutApartment Therapy January Cure - Day 16

I'm ahead of myself again! I've been gradually cleaning out my medicine cabinets and shower caddy over the last few days and getting rid of all the samples and unused products. If it doesn't work for me or I'm not going to try it, then there's no point in keeping it in the cabinet! I also made a list of the things I need to replace, so I'll stop by the drugstore tonight to pick up a couple necessities to restock.

Wanted to recommend this cute (and cheap) cable drops from Poppin - a set of 6 is only $10. I use them on my desk to keep my laptop and phone chargers organized and ready to charge. Otherwise the cords end up falling behind my desk and end up in a mess on the floor! They also sell some cable organizers which look like a good option, though I haven't tried those. I have a Belkin power strip under my desk that has enough outlets for all my devices and has a slim, sleek design.

Most of my bills and credit cards are paperless now, which has cut down on a lot of the paper piling up. I keep receipts for purchases in a drawer until I've decided that I'm definitely keeping the item or until the return "window" is up. I keep pay stubs and rent/electric stubs clipped together in a drawer organized chronologically. I don't need a more complicated system, since the paperwork I do have is pretty manageable!

Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/22/13 10:45 AM

I live in a studio apartment, and my "bedroom" is half of my living space sectioned off thanks to my Ikea Expedit. I happened to change my bedding just last weekend, so I don't need to do that again just yet. However, I have been meaning to hang a mirror over the nightstand next to my bed (it's on my Cure to-do list), so I'll get that done over the weekend! I'll also make sure to vacuum allll the way under my bed. To my under-bed storage, also for Ikea, for keeping it neat and organized under there!

I recognized the office immediately and was so excited to see the rest of the house! This is such a happy space with a quirky/cute style. I love how all the different colors come together.

I have to say the book and media collection at my current apartment is pretty small and well-organized, so I don't have much of a need to declutter. It is about time to throw out old magazines though, so I'll spend a few minutes doing that tonight!

The vast majority of my book collection is on shelves at my parents' house, but I did make an effort to donate or sell some books last time I was home. It is heartbreaking to see how little those expensive textbooks resell for, but at least I cleared out some old books that haven't been opened since graduation.

1/17/13 11:53 AM

I was planning on going to the gym tonight anyway, so I will just have to make an effort to avoid the TVs above the treadmills! I'm not sure if this is cheating or not, but I'm going to use my Rosetta Stone program to practice French (no Internet browsing or social media though!).

Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/16/13 11:14 AM

My project is to create a gallery wall over my desk with some of the prints I've been collecting. I already framed the pieces and just picked up some more hanging strips, so tonight I'll decide on the arrangement and hang them up! It will definitely end up growing and evolving over time as I find new things to add to the "gallery," but the 4-5 pieces I have now will be the foundation. I also have a mirror I need to hang up over my nightstand, so I might as well do that today as well!

Day 10: Work on Your Goal Project Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/15/13 1:07 PM

I've been perfecting my landing strip recently and I think it's now in good, functional shape for me! I enter my apartment through a short hallway with the coat closet on the right wall, so I immediately hang up my coat on the way in. I also have hooks for scarves and my everyday bag just inside the door. A black leather bench/storage ottoman has a big tray for magazines and catalogs (junk mail gets thrown out in the recycling bin in the mail room downstairs) and is the home for my gym bag (so I can grab it easily on the way out the door in the morning). A dresser to the other side holds a small tray for sunglasses and mail and a bowl for my keys. I keep my Hunter rainboots by the door so they're always ready when I need them and put my other shoes away when I come in.

Thanks for the motivation to finally clean the inside of my fridge - which I haven't done since I moved into my apartment last year! I'm thinking I'll bake up something yummy tomorrow using some of the new baking supplies I got for Christmas. Now on to the rest of the kitchen cleaning...

Day 8: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Kitchen Cleaning & Make Yourself a Meal Apartment Therapy January Cure

Got a head start on this last night by framing and hanging my set of 3 bus roll posters! I'm planning to set up a small gallery wall over my desk, so that will be my next art project.

I thought that it might be a small TV, which would explain why it's on a high shelf.

I live in a ~500 square foot studio and spent 10 minutes sitting in different spots letting me see my entire apartment. After doing that I was so clear on what needed to get done and what changes I need to make, so I'm motivated to start tackling a few items from my list.

Day 4: Get a Fresh Perspective in
Just 10 Minutes Apartment Therapy January Cure

1/8/13 11:18 AM

I'm finally going to frame all the prints I've collected over the past year and hang them up. I got a headstart on my project this weekend by measuring and ordering all the frames I need (FYI Amazon has good deals on basic black frames). I'll definitely be taking before and after pictures, because I think it will make a huge difference to have framed prints hung nicely vs. unframed ones stuck up using poster strips!

Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/8/13 9:49 AM

I'm renting an apartment and my lease is up in six months, so I was starting to lose motivation to do the last couple of projects I had planned. This is getting me motivated to finally hang those prints that have been sitting around for months and invest time in some projects I can bring to my next apartment.

Also, I'm using the Wunderlist app to keep track of my list - it's great because I have a list for each room and then sub-tasks within each list.
